7 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

UNICEF works in some of the worldโ€™s toughest places, to reach the worldโ€™s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.ย

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.ย

And we never give up.ย

For every child, EDUCATIONย

If you are a committed, creative professional and are passionate about making a lasting difference for children and youth entitled to an education in emergencies, we would like to hear from you.

Education Cannot Wait (ECW) is the first global multilateral fund dedicated to supporting education for children and youth in countries affected by wars, disasters and crises. It was launched at the World Humanitarian Summit in 2016 by a broad coalition of international aid agencies and public and private donors to usher in faster and more sustainable education responses in crises settings. ECW inspires political commitment to financing education in humanitarian contexts, catalyzes financial resources, facilitates joint programming between humanitarian and development actors, empowers local partners and seeks to strengthen quality and accountability.

ECW is hosted by UNICEF. The Fund is administered under UNICEFโ€™s financial, human resources and administrative rules and regulations, while operations are run by the Fundโ€™s own independent governance structure that provides strategic guidance and oversight to its investments. ECWโ€™s day-to-day activities are carried out by a Secretariat under the direction of the ECW Director.
ECW is establishing a roster of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) interns. The ECW Internship Programme offers qualified and eligible students/graduates the opportunity to acquire direct practical experience in international development work in education under the direct supervision of the M&E team at the ECW Secretariat.

How can you make a difference?ย

Purpose of the internship:

They shall process and analyze annual/final reports of those programmes and existing datasets to support the production of ECWโ€™s 2022 annual results report (see previous publication: https://www.educationcannotwait.org/annual-report-2021/ )ย Interns may also support other initiatives led by the M&E team related to monitoring, evaluation, learning and knowledge sharing.

Main duties:

Collecting, quality assuring, analyzing and synthesizing information across ECW grants to support program development, design, and preparation of the annual results report. Assisting in cost-effectiveness analysis and other financial analyses to calculate value-for-money of ECW investments. Assisting in education outcome change analysis of ECW investments. Performing data quality checks in ECW-supported grantees reports and final databases. Follow-up with ECW grantees on their results reporting when necessary. Draft sections of the ECW annual results report on ECW strategic objectives and/or Education outcomes. Supporting preparation of communication materialย including drafting learning briefs, blogs, and other relevant written material. Conducting background research, literature review and mapping and analysis of reports and evaluations in education in emergencies on a global and/or country/crisis level. Conducting program reviews or mapping through the ECWโ€™s grants database to help synthesize information for learning and knowledge sharing. Supporting the development and management of databases and/or tracking tools to improve the M&E teamโ€™s ability to monitor the sharing and use of relevant knowledge products. Contributing to strengthening the overall ECW information management system. Assisting the M&E team with any other duties.
