Back Office Officer

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is hiring a Back Office Officer to join our Back Office Operations team in the Banking department.

The role is based in Basel, Switzerland, however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.

Purpose of the job:

Our mission is to support central banks' pursuit of monetary and financial stability through international cooperation, and to act as a bank for central banks.

You will contribute to this mission by:

working on transactional Back Office tasks, as well as contributing to various stages of projects or continuous improvement initiatives. working on various processes and protocols, ensuring conformity with best market practices and compliance rules.

By joining the Back Office Operations team, you will:

become familiar with a broad range of products, processes, and systems in the operations environment. be part of a team with high impact responsibilities in processing, confirming, validating transactions and payments. benefit from working in an international environment that offers flexible working with a blend of onsite work and home office.

Principal Accountabilities:

Validation and confirmation of trades, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of confirmations, settlements, and payments. Resolve exceptions for all non-standard and complex operations for bonds, money market, FX and derivatives instruments. Create, check, and maintain instrument definitions in the trading system. Investigate and resolve issues together with front office, custodians, and customers. Involvement in settlement instructions maintenance process.

Qualifications, skills, and experience:

Proven Banking Back Office experience and good knowledge of Banking instruments, market practice and new initiatives in the banking / financial industry. Familiarity with Swift messaging formats. Knowledge of Bloomberg information systems. Flexible, collaborative, and excellent team player. Good organizational skills with the ability to work to deadlines. Customer-focused with good communication skills. Proficiency in English. Knowledge of German, Italian or French desirable.
