Summary of Position

The auxiliary nurse will play a crucial role in supporting the qualified nurses to provide essential care to patients in a Makkah hospital in Kahda district. The role requires a combination of practical nursing skills, empathy, and the ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team.

Purpose

The auxiliary nurse will provides essential support to the nursing staff and contributes to quality patient care. He/she will assist with patient care, monitor vital signs, support medical procedures, observe and report changes in patients' conditions, maintain accurate documentation, ensure infection control practices, provide emotional support to patients and families, and collaborate with the healthcare team. Their role is crucial in maintaining patient well-being and enhancing overall healthcare delivery.

Engagement

The auxiliary nurse will engage in various responsibilities, including direct patient care, vital signs monitoring, assisting with medical procedures, mobility assistance, observation and reporting, documentation, infection control, emotional support, and collaboration with the healthcare team.

Essential Job Functions

 Patient Care: Provide direct care and support to patients under the supervision of registered nurses or healthcare professionals. This includes assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and toileting, as well as ensuring patient comfort and safety. Vital Signs Monitoring: Regularly measure and record patients' vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, and respiration rate. Report any significant changes or abnormalities to the nurse in charge. Assisting with Medical Procedures: Assist healthcare professionals during various medical procedures, such as wound dressings, catheterizations, specimen collection, and administering medications. Follow proper protocols, maintain a sterile environment, and ensure patient comfort throughout the process. Mobility Assistance: Help patients with mobility issues to move, turn, and transfer safely, using appropriate techniques and equipment. This may involve using hoists, mobility aids, or assisting patients with walking. Patient Observation: Observe patients closely and report any changes in their condition to the nursing staff. This includes monitoring and documenting changes in behavior, physical appearance, appetite, and fluid intake. Documentation and Record-keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including vital signs, intake and output measurements, and any other relevant information. Ensure confidentiality and adherence to data protection regulations. Infection Control: Follow strict infection control procedures to prevent the spread of infections within the hospital. Adhere to hand hygiene protocols, use personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately, and maintain cleanliness and hygiene in patient care areas. Supportive Role: Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families, demonstrating empathy and compassion. Communicate effectively with patients, addressing their concerns, and relaying relevant information to the nursing staff. Equipment and Supply Management: Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring that equipment and supplies are readily available and properly stored. Report any faulty equipment or supply shortages to the appropriate personnel. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with the multidisciplinary healthcare team, including nurses, doctors, therapists, and other support staff, to ensure coordinated and holistic patient care. Communicate effectively and participate in care planning meetings and shift handovers.

Requirements

Required Qualifications and Professional Experience:

Education: Possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a certified nursing assistant (CNA) or auxiliary nursing program. Experience: Prior experience in a healthcare or caregiving role is beneficial, but not always required. On-the-job training is often provided to develop the necessary skills and knowledge.

Nursing Skills: Familiarity with basic nursing principles and practices is essential. Knowledge of medical terminology, infection control, and patient care techniques is advantageous. Ability to accurately measure vital signs and perform basic medical procedures is crucial. Communication Skills: Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team is vital. Active listening skills and the ability to follow instructions accurately are important. Organization and Attention to Detail: Display strong organizational skills and attention to detail to maintain accurate records, manage tasks efficiently, and ensure patient safety. Adaptability and Stress Management: Be adaptable and able to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally. Work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic healthcare environment. Ethics and Professionalism: Adhere to ethical standards, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate professionalism at all times. Respect patient privacy and maintain a high level of integrity in patient care. Ability to take initiative and prioritize multiple tasks with minimum supervision. Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to work both independently and as a member of a team. Should have excellent emotional intelligence, be flexible, adaptable, and resilient, and able to live and work in basic conditions for the entire period of data collection.
