Org. Setting and ReportingThis position is in the Protocol Office of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). The incumbent reports to the Chief Protocol. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Associate Protocol Officer will carry out the following duties: โ€ข Providing protocol assistance to members of the core senior leadership team and the missionโ€™s visitors of the same level as required, in line with their day-to-day programs โ€ข Arranging meetings between the Mission officials and the local authorities, as requested. โ€ข Ensuring implementation of the provisions relating to privileges and immunities Supporting the organization of MINUSCAโ€™s ceremonies and events; Facilitating and coordinating with the Chief Protocol regarding all the missionโ€™s administrative matters as they relate to host countryโ€™s obligations under the agreement with the United Nations. Coordinates logistical requirements to the ceremonies and protocol tasks as may be required. โ€ข Working in collaboration with other team members in terms of liaison between the Front Office and the host government counterpart; diplomatic community regarding appointments and meetings. โ€ข Maintaining communication with the State Protocol during official events and ceremonies attended by the members of the core senior leadership team and the missionโ€™s visitors of the same level. โ€ข Assisting in the organization of trips of members of the core senior leadership teamโ€™s with regards to the arrangement of the VIP lounge at the airport, immigration formalities and visa. โ€ข Identifiying and visiting in advance venues of activities, meetings, locations to be visited and makesappropriate advance arrangements. โ€ข Taking active action to make seat arrangements for ceremonies/meetings/conferences hosted by the members of the core senior leadership teamโ€™s as required. โ€ข Maintaining and providing to those concerned an up-to-date mailing list and contact information pertaining to the composition of the host countryโ€™s Government and the Diplomatic Missions accredited to the host Country regional organizations, as well as UN agencies, Programmes and Funds. โ€ข Cooperating with Administration, incuding Transport, Aviation and MovCon Sections. โ€ข Familiarizing staff members with local laws when interacting with local authorities. โ€ข Helping the mission understand, and comply to local customs, values, and traffic rules. โ€ข Preparing Notes Verbales and letters to the diplomatic community and host government to be cleared by the Chief Protocol for onward transmission. โ€ข Coordinating with the local authorities, in providing assistance to the Medical Unit in case of medical emergency and โ€ข carrying out administrative tasks Performing other duties as assigned. CompetenciesProfessionalism: Possesses knowledge of accepted norms, rules, and customs of international diplomatic protocol, including practices developed within the United Nations System or similar international organization. Knows administrative procedures and practices of international organization such as the United Nations. Demonstrates familiarity with the โ€œUnited Nations Flag Code and Regulationsโ€; โ€œUnited Nations Order of Precedenceโ€; and โ€œGeneral Information for the Permanent Missions to the United Nationsโ€.
