This position is located in the Mediation Support Unit (MSU) of the Policy and Mediation Division of the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (PMD/DPPA). MSU serves as a system-wide resource that assists the mediation and dialogue initiatives of the UN and partners and provides technical and operational support of mediation and dialogue processes; capacity-building; and mediation guidance, lessons learned and comparative analysis. The Associate Programme Officer will report to the Chief and to the Team Leader of the Mediation Support Unit (MSU).Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Associate Programme Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
- Maintains and updates the content of the 'UN Peacemaker' and 'Constitutionmaker' website: in collaboration with the broader team, develops material for the two websites, including drafting content, collecting best practices, regularly updating and gathering input for key pages of the website, tracking and coding peace agreements in the database and identifies new reference material to add on the websites' online resources library.
- Manages the Mediation Roster and database of constitution experts: overhaul the mediation roster platform under the guidance and oversight of the MSU focal point; assesses and identifies expertise gaps in the Roster and database to respond to emerging areas of demand, identifies potential candidates for inclusion on the Roster and database, with a particular focus on female candidates and experts from the global south, and manage vetting of expertise. Oversees the Roster content, liaises with requesting entities and generates shortlists for deployments.
- Carries out basic research on selected aspects of programmes, operations and other activities, etc., to include collecting, analyzing and presenting statistical data and other information gathered from diverse sources.
- Provides substantive support for policy coordination and evaluation functions, including the review and analysis of emerging issues and trends, participation in evaluations or research activities and studies.
- Assists in performing consulting assignments, in collaboration with the client, by planning facilitating workshops, through other interactive sessions and assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change.
- Participates in survey initiatives; assists with design of data collection tools; issues data collection tools, reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares preliminary conclusions.
- Contributes to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
- Provides administrative and substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying and proposed participants, preparation of background documents and presentations, handling logistics, etc.
- Undertakes outreach activities; participates in the development of training workshops, seminars, etc.; participates in and makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.
- Participates in field missions, including provision of substantive and administrative support, data collection, etc.
- Coordinates activities related to budget funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and preparation of related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.).
- Supports the overall work of the MSU and performs other duties as required.

A first-level university degree in international relations, knowledge service management, business administration, communication, management, economics or a related field.Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in project/programme management, administration of related area is required.
No experience is required for candidates who have passed the United Nations Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the G to P Examination (G to P).
Experience in website development and maintenance is desirable.
Experience working for an international organization in the field of mediation, conflict resolution, or political affairs is desirable.
Experience working with senior envoys is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
