The Inter-American Investment Corporation (IDB Invest), a member of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, is a multilateral organization based in Washington, D.C., that is committed to the development of Latin America and the Caribbean through the private sector.

About this position:

The Strategy and Development Department (DSP), with its division, the Advisory Services Division (ADV) is responsible for leading IDB Invest efforts to create, implement and sustain its strategic vision and achieve development impact and additionality. DSP delivers on Development Effectiveness, Strategic Planning and Knowledge, Social Environmental and Governance, Advisory Services, and Corporate Affairs.

The primary objective of this consultancy is to assist IDB Invest to develop nature positive and biodiversity and adaptation framework as well as support the design and inclusion of nature positive financial instruments across IDB Invest transactions, engaging with different areas of IDB Invest, collecting inputs and ensuring the final products reflects a private sector perspective.

What you’ll do:

· The Consultant will support the climate change team, by carrying out tasks including:

· Perform background research, gather, and analyze information to be used in the adaptation and biodiversity framework.

· Identify relevant metric frameworks (or work towards frameworks) such as taxonomies, standards such as ICMA and ISSB, MDB impact frameworks, transactions, and guidelines, that market actors, NGOs, and any other relevant actor are suing for financing nature positive investments.

· Review those metrics with the backdrop of their applicability to private sector financial products such as loans, bonds, equity investments, with a variety of tenors and grace periods.

· Review the challenges and identify opportunities for the development of blue financial products in the market, applicability to the Region and IDB Invest business model, including a strategy for deployment in S&I

· Collaborate with advisory and investment officers in the integration of the relevant lessons learned from past transactions into the final framework.

· Compile and analyze information, and prepare reports and presentations as needed to present to Senior Management

· Design of nature positive financial instruments, together with Investment Officers, defining KPIs for private sector financial markets

· Any other tasks that the climate team may require as related to the relationship with different stakeholders across the IDB Group and does not represent a departure from these TOR.

What you’ll need:

Education: Master’s degree in environmental science, economics, engineering, public policy, finance, or related areas. Experience: At least 5+ years of relevant professional experience in finance, business, environmental engineering, ecosystem services, climate change, nature loss, climate finance, public policy, environmental management, conservation, forestry, or other related subjects. Understanding the Paris Alignment context and GBF commitments and implications for Latin America and the Caribbean shall be highly valued. Track record in either one or both private sector firms and in development focused institutions will be highly valued. An understanding of the operational work of multilateral institutions as well as an understanding of the operational frameworks of multilateral institutions will be a plus. Language: Oral and written native-like proficiency in English and Spanish, additional knowledge of Portuguese is a plus Additional Skills: Interpersonal and teamwork skills, ability to work independently, with initiative and responsibility to perform some technical and analytical support functions for ADV. You should also have research and analytical skills to be able to gather basic information and effectively transfer them into a desired format.

Type of contract and duration:

Type of contract: Consultant Full-Time Length of contract: 12 months, with the option of renewal for additional 24 months. Location: Headquarters, Washington DC.
