Job Summary
The Writer/Editor III plays a pivotal communications role on the G-REM Content & Editorial Studio team to produce high-quality, compelling, timely and on-brand content about CRSโ work and mission for diverse priority donors across the United States. S/he writes, edits and produces a range of materialโincluding private donor proposals, reports, online campaign materials, web pages, scripts and presentationsโwith an emphasis on capturing the human impact of CRSโ work around the world. The role includes substantive editing, proofreading, fact checking, design and organization of content produced by colleagues in other departments, print and electronic communications projects for timely dissemination. The Writer ensures accurate and compelling content, and consistent use of grammar, house style and voice in keeping with best practices and the CRS editorial calendar and guidelines.ย ย
Roles and Key Responsibilities
Acts as a gatekeeper for editorial review processes of a variety of publications and media for G-REM divisions. Collaborates with staff writers, fellow editors, internal clients, overseas program staff and others involved in editorial processes.ย Edits several hundred projects per year (including donor magazines, annual reports, newsletters, brochures and special publications); multimedia materials; and pages for the CRS website, including blogs and photo galleries, ensuring accuracy and appropriate and consistent message.ย Researches, writes, proofreads, and revise materials for donor materials from the CRS President & CEOโs office and other CRS divisions or units. Develops concepts and provides written content for online and direct mail solicitations, and other materials to engage donors. Follows CRS Editorial Style and Equity in Storytelling Guidelines and works with colleagues to ensure CRS style and boilerplate materials are up to date. Works to update online editorial calendars, assists team with editorial resources pages on SharePoint site.ย ย Collects, edits, updates, maintains and tracks human interest stories in online databases for use across the agency.ย Maintains web-based internal communications vehicles to facilitate information sharing and project management among agency communicators.ย Collaborates with professionals across a multitude of disciplines that include private and institutional funding, Global Programs, storytelling production, digital design, analytics and Church Engagement. Proficient in software packages, including MS Word (including all editing functions); Excel; PowerPoint; Adobe; project management toolsย Well versed in standard style guides (AP, Chicago, etc.) Proficient knowledge of design principles for print, web and infographicsย Proficient understanding of world geography and demographics Fastidious research, writing and editing skillsย Adapts to all varieties of communication, from print to web, news to features, blogs to annual reports, magazines to multimedia, essays to captionsย Thorough understanding of editing demands, including track record of successful collaborations with writers, editors, print and web designers, video producersย Ability toย navigate and ethically apply emerging AI tools and resources to enhance efficiency, creativity, and quality in communications, while maintaining CRSโs editorial integrity and standards. Basic Qualifications
