The Psychosocial Wellbeing Section -PWS is looking for an intern to assist in management of the implementation of UNHCRโs staff health promotion initiatives in its Americas region.
With more than 80 duty stations across the continent, the Regional Bureau for the Americas, and Caribbean covers 24 countries and territories with a workforce of 2,500 staff.
The Psychosocial Wellbeing Section runs Mental health and wellbeing programmes covering prevention, protection/ promotion and support to support staff and operations in mitigation of psychosocial risks. The Snr. Staff Counsellor, based in Panama is in charge of these programmes and seeks support on promotion activities of Mental health in the region.
The staff wellbeing initiatives provide opportunities to increase healthy behaviours, improve health knowledge, and builds resilience that mitigates psychosocial risks in the workplace. Currently, the PWS Americas Region is working on the expansion of virtual wellbeing promotion initiatives, the use of UNHCRโs wellbeing platformโs content for which the support by an intern is required.
The intern will work under the supervision of the Senior Staff Counsellor and will interact regularly with Peer Advisors, HR colleagues, the medical team in UNHCRโs Americas region and Global Psychosocial wellbeing team focusing on implementation and monitoring of health promotion and disease prevention initiatives. The intern will be expected to collaborate with other stakeholders on projects related to the wellbeing platform.
Duties and responsibilities
โข Assist in keeping track on implementation of staff wellbeing promotion initiatives across UNHCRโs Americas operations.
โข Documentation support: Taking minutes and action point of meetings; keep all meeting/event documents organised in online, easily retrievable folders.
โข Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of in-persona and virtual wellbeing initiatives
โข Supporting data analytics and presentation of satisfaction surveys and needs assessments related to wellbeing initiatives.
โข Assisting in compiling information for local content of the wellbeing platform from operations in the Americas region.
โข Assisting in the promotion and socialization of the wellbeing platform; researching diverse print and electronic information sources for topics and materials for use in promoting mobile and desktop platform products and services.
โข Assisting in collating information related to wellbeing [psychosocial] initiatives and campaigns implemented in UNHCRโs country operations in the Americas region.
โข Liaising with the Peer Advisors network in the coordination of implementation of mental health initiatives
โข Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications required:
โข Recent graduate (those persons who completed their studies within one year of applying) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and
โข Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.
Desirable qualifications and skills:
โข Degree in Counselling, Organisational Psychology, Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, Business Studies, Project Management or other related fields.
โข Experience with data collection, statistical analysis, report writing and drafting reports and correspondence
โข Excellent presentation and written and verbal communication skills.
โข Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
โข Language Requirements: Knowledge of English and Spanish required. Knowledge of French and/or Portuguese would be an asset.
โข Strong interest in workplace wellbeing, employee wellness, and organizational health
The intern will be required to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information related to employees' wellbeing and organizational operations.
It is a full-time role with working hours starting from 8:00am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 8:00am to 12pm on Friday. The successful candidate will be assigned to support the team in Panama City location / home-based.
Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
