5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesUN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace, and security.

ContextUN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Communicating gender data effectively is central to influencing decision-making and driving action toward equality and womenโ€™s empowerment. To enhance the visibility and use of gender data, the Regional Office for the Arab States (ROAS) plans to produce three evidence-based infographics by the end of 2025. These infographics will transform analytical findings into accessible visual products that communicate key messages on gender equality, womenโ€™s leadership, and emerging issues in humanitarian and development settings. The infographics will adhere to UN Womenโ€™s regional branding and visual identity standards, ensuring a professional and consistent presentation across platforms. UN Women seeks to recruit a UN Volunteer with expertise in visual communication and data storytelling to lead the design, production, and finalization of these three infographics. The consultant will report to the Regional Programme Specialist on Evidence for Programming.

Task DescriptionUnder the supervision of the Regional Monitoring Specialist, the UN Volunteer will perform the following tasks: Content Development and Conceptualization โ€ข Review UN Womenโ€™s regional reports, data products, and briefs to identify priority themes and data for visualization. โ€ข Define the visual narrative and main messages for each infographic, in consultation with the Regional Data and Communications teams. โ€ข Develop storyboards or concept notes outlining proposed design approaches and data presentation methods. Design and Production โ€ข Design three infographics that visually convey evidence-based messages on gender equality and womenโ€™s empowerment. โ€ข Ensure designs are clear, accurate, and aligned with UN Womenโ€™s regional branding and data visualization standards. โ€ข Produce versions suitable for both digital (web, social media) and print dissemination. โ€ข Provide editable design files and ensure all visual assets and icons are open-license or developed originally. Quality Assurance and Revisions โ€ข Incorporate UN Women feedback and ensure visual, textual, and data accuracy. โ€ข Ensure each infographic includes verified data sources and consistent messaging. โ€ข Finalize high-quality outputs ready for public release and regional dissemination.

Living conditions and remarksCairo, Egypt is a family duty station with a wide range of services (health, education and leisure) and good living conditions. It has long been a center of the regionโ€™s political and cultural life, with high levels of tourism. Like other similar cities, Cairo offers good quality of life in terms of access to shopping centers, banks, medical services, educational facilities, cultural events, etc. The Arab Republic of Egypt has a unique geographical position in Northeast Africa, at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, on the Mediterranean and Red Sea, and its connection to Sub Saharan Africa through the Nile Valley. You can check full entitlements at the duty station at https://app.unv.org/calculator. The complete UN Volunteer Conditions of Service is available at https://explore.unv.org/cos.
