Work LocationGeneva, Switzerland Expected duration4 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The overall objective of the UNEP’s Industry and Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities. The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is the strategic partnership between the United Nations and over 500 banks, insurers and investors. For over 32 years UNEP FI has been shaping and driving the international sustainable finance agenda, setting global standards and growing a global network of leading financial institutions. Through its work-streams and regional activities, peer learning, methodology development, training and research, UNEP FI carries out its mission to help the financial industry align with and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals and with that take on the crucial role it must play in achieving a sustainable future. The Impact & SDG Team is responsible for UNEP FI’s impact management methodology, uniquely based on a holistic consideration of the three pillars of sustainable development, and embodied in the Impact Protocol, the Impact Radar, a suite of Impact Mappings, Tools and Interoperability Resources. It works with the industry, thematic, and regional teams of UNEP FI, as well as a range of external partners, to normalize and mainstream holistic impact analysis and management in mainstream finance. Through the Platform, these initiatives will continue to work together to identify opportunities to consolidate existing sustainability resources, collectively address gaps, and coordinate with policymakers and regulators to support the mainstreaming of impact management. More information available here: Impact Management Platform — Manage sustainability impacts UNEP FI’s Impact Team is seeking a Junior Communications Programme Associate, Impact & SDGs to support its various engagement and communication activities. Specific tasks and responsibilities: This is a generalist role whose responsibilities will span multiple functions, including: 1. Research & analytics: • Stay abreast of relevant developments in the sustainable finance / impact management field and prepare briefings for the team • Conduct research and support interoperability mapping work • Conduct research and support country needs mapping and analysis 2. Communications: • Maintenance and optimization of Impact websites • Production / contribution to relevant newsletters • Preparation of comms toolkits as needed • Development and roll-out internal induction materials and sessions • Organisation of team Brown Bag sessions 3. Operations: • Set-up of events and meetings • Maintenance and optimisation of contact and other logs/databases, filing system • Compilation and analysis of Impact & SDG performance data 4. Implementation support • Translation of key resources into Chinese • Organise translation of key resources into other languages Outputs and Deliverables: • Monthly IMP Partner Beat and corresponding section of the monthly Key Liaison meetings • IMP Partner Content Sessions • Impact & SDGs content for UNEP FI newsletters (inc. PRB /PSI) • Convening of Impact & SDGs workshops, Community of practice, working group sessions, webinars • Maintained and optimised Impact & SDG section, as well as IMP section, of the UNEP FI website • Research and data- to support interoperability work (Chinese policy & regulatory instruments) & all other regional / country data (e.g. for the UNEP FI needs mapping and related section of UNEP FI Portal) • Key resources translated • Impact & SDG and IMP operations (contact and other logs/databases, filing system) maintained and optimised • Impact & SDG performance data (participation levels, downloads, etc.) compilation and analysis • Internal induction and update programme The consultant shall be under the overall supervision of the Head UNEP FI and report directly to the Impact Team Lead. Qualifications/special skillsAcademic background: A bachelor’s degree in international relations, business, finance, development, humanities or a related field. A master’s degree may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree, provided the candidate has 0 years of experience. Experience: At least 2 years’ experience in project management and stakeholder engagement, preferably in the field of business and sustainability. LanguagesLanguages: English is a working language of UNEP FI. Knowledge of other United Nations languages is an asset. Additional InformationSkills & knowledge: Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with professionals across different projects and teams. Excellent communication skills, including written and presentation skills. Strong organisational and project management skills, as well as attention to detail. Strong research and analytical skills and capacity to understand complex / multi-facetted issues. Advanced skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Familiarity with the main approaches to impact measurement and management, including the relevant standards, norms and frameworks, is expected.
