Job description

The European Union launched in 2021 a Team Europe Initiative on manufacturing and access to vaccines, medicines and health technologies (TEI MAV+) to boost local manufacturing capacities and strengthen pharmaceutical systems in Africa. Members of โ€œTeam Europeโ€, including the European Commission, EU Member States and the European Investment Bank, work in close collaboration with the African Union, particularly Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and the Partnership for African Vaccine Manufacturing (PAVM), to advance the aims of this flagship Global Gateway initiative and the objectives of the African Union. To foster close coordination and effective collaboration between all parties under the initiative, the European Commission has set up a Team Europe Support Service. Funding from the EU for this technical support service is complemented by Belgium (โ‚ฌ3 million) and Germany (โ‚ฌ2 million). As an implementation partner of the Team Europe Support Service, the GIZ supports PAVM in hiring professionals to work within its secretariat and drive forward the continental vaccine manufacturing agenda.

Your tasks

Report to the PAVM work stream lead and works hand-in-hand with other workstream members Develop a detailed and robust work plan for workstream activities for the short-mid and long-term Lead internal work stream meeting preparation, facilitation and follow-up Lead and/or manage specific design and policy/strategy setting activities, including analyses, options assessment and recommendation setting with the workstream owner Review and evaluate papers, concepts and proposals and coordinate and interact with external actors relevant for the work stream agenda Help to structure problem statements and identify solutions Draft key documents (e.g., presentations, technical design document, proposals, briefing notes, question and answer key milestones, and progress monitoring) for internal and external use Coordinate, plan and execute the work within the Task Force to ensure timely completion and alignment with the overall programme implementation plan

Your profile

Masterโ€™s Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Pharmaceuticals or Biology or related fields with many years of work experience, with first working experience in the educational / scientific / private sector setting OR Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Business, Engineering, Chemistry, Pharmaceuticals or Biology or a related field with many years of work experience Several years of supervisory and managerial experience Demonstrable technical expertise in the pharmaceutical field with focus on Biologics Many years of work experience in the field in an African country in the Health sector โ€“ public or private institutions Excellent Analytical and problem-solving skills coupled with strong communication abilities both in writing and verbal. Strong self-motivation and project management skills Fluent English; Knowledge of two or more of African Union working languages (French, Arabic or Portuguese) required
