ContextThe Solar Engineer will be required to provide technical support to the State Offices in Kassala, Gadaref, River Nile and Red Sea in the production of BOQs, Drawings, Design and detailed specifications of solar systems as and when required by the project as well as supervision and quality control and compliance of solar systems. Produce the Technical Design/BOQs of solar systems. During the production of the technical design the main goal will be to ensure structural integrity, functionality, and compliance with regulatory engineering approved standards while incorporating innovative and sustainable design solutions. This comprehensive approach to quality management will be crucial during the designing, implementation, monitoring and evaluation in achieving successful outcomes and establishing a reputation for excellence in the construction industry. Participate in the supervision process and conduct detailed technical evaluation of solar systems ensuring quality control as per the required standards. Ensure that, the technical design and implementation must incorporate an Occupational Health and Safety Plan (OSH), a Social Environmental Screening Procedure (SESP), and ensure that all Bill of Quantities (BoQ) requirements, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety standards, are included. Additionally, supervision of the adherence to the supplier's code of conduct, which integrates Social and Environmental Standards (SES) requirements, is essential. The Solar Engineer should assure that they prepare & review all documents and orient contract service providers (potential and awardee) on Scope of Work (SOW), SES and construction design standards. Solar Engineer will be responsible for quality control and independent verification of solar engineering works documents including specifications/Scope of work, Drawings, Design and Bill of Quantities.
Task Descriptionโข Provide technical and procurement assistance for solar systems, including solar pumps, solar stove , solar kits: lanterns, torches and streetlights. โข Inspect the procured solar items to ensure quality and compliance with international and national standards, โข Supervise the installation and commissioning of solar systems. โข Ensure that contractors have supplied the quantity and quality of solar items and materials as detailed in the BoQs and specifications, โข Ensure contractors have correctly installed the solar systems/ solar pumps to the required engineering standards applicable to solar PV systems. โข Ensure that contractors have provided the equipment manuals guidelines, installed the necessary labels, and training of the end users, โข Conduct a comprehensive training program for the targeted women on solar equipment installation and maintenance. โข Prepare and Report on the handover of installed solar PV systems from the contractors to UNDP. โข Coordinate with local authorities and communities and manage and negotiate equipment handover. โข Prepare a final report on the commissioning and handover of installed solar PV systems and appropriate capacity-building activities. โข Bills of Quantities: produce BOQs items and ensure that the specifications are clear in all respect and have proper specifications of material and labour with international solar systems standards. โข Provide input on the allocated resources and provide further input, if required. โข Produce Designs and Drawings: ensure that it correspond with the given specifications in the Bill of Quantities (BoQ), quality control and verify if it includes all the requirements for implementation of the project and provide improvement, as applicable. โข Prepare/ develop technical specifications of the utilized construction and non-constriction material of the project and make corrective measures. โข Provide guidance to the project team on necessary adjustments or modifications if needed under evaluation/review process with the evolving regulations. โข Conduct Unit Rate analysis comparing the internal estimate and rates offered by the recommended bidder focusing and ensuring value for money. โข Provide detailed analysis of the received bids/quotations and provide recommendation/s. โข Engage community mobilizers, community leaders and key stakeholders in joint monitoring of civil and non-civil work โข Engage community in ensuring the Feedback and Compliant Mechanism for all civil and non-civil work through community mobilizers.

Allowances The purpose of allowances for the National UN Volunteers Specialist is to enable the National UN Volunteers Specialist to sustain a modest and secure standard of living at the duty station. The allowances are in no way to be understood as compensation, reward, or salary in exchange for volunteer work. Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA): All National UN Volunteer Specialists are entitled to a monthly volunteer living allowance of USD 1,983.9 The purpose of this allowance is to cover the basic living costs of the National Specialists UN Volunteer. The allowance is to ensure that the volunteer can sustain a basic, adequate, and safe lifestyle. The monthly allowance rate is a fixed rate for the duty station as established by UNV headquarters.
