Context
IOMโs Department of Media and Communications (DMC) is comprised of experienced communications professionals based in Geneva and Manila. The team provides advice and support on media and public information issues to IOM Headquarters and missions worldwide. It is responsible for direct media relations with UN-accredited Geneva press corps and others.ย
Under the overall supervision of the Director of DMC and direct supervision of the Editor in Chief, the Social Media and News Associate would be responsible for managing internal communication processes across the organization, researching, writing, editing and publishing of news articles across various platforms, including digital and print media, and administers IOMโs global social media accounts and website and manages content submitted from around the world to be published on those global platforms, oversees institutional branding and initiates and manages global information campaigns.
Support the news of the organization, including cross-cutting initiatives in the Department of Media and communications, by drafting content and other engaging materials.Contribute to the development and implementation of the IOMโs editorial Strategy (news and social media).Draft online content and prepare inputs for campaigns delivered across various platforms, such as Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Tik Tok, Instagram, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Weibo and other emerging platforms.Facilitate the management of all IOMโs social media accounts by using analytics tools to measure performance and providing guidance to help strategic social media decisions.Draft engaging news and social media content.Gather, prepare and disseminate news updates where required.Draft relevant content in accordance with audiencesโ needs and latest trends for social media and news.Assist, as needed, in crafting high quality news content, editing and proofreading of daily communication materials.ย Provide editorial and technical support across IOM missions and regional offices, Global Offices and HQ.Work closely with national and international media to provide approved content and other news and information.ย Liaise with IOM missions worldwide, and other partner organisations, primarily the UN, to share information that promotes IOM visibility.Monitor and provide updates on trending news, breaking news, and other key developments.ย Perform such other duties as may be assigned.ยEducation
Masterโs degree in Digital Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or,University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experienceย

Experience
Minimum of 3 yearsโ experience in marketing with emphasis on digital/social media and/or news;Proven experience in building and sustaining strong relationships with peer groups, UN agencies and NPO`s;Working knowledge and experience leveraging social media and news in support of larger integrated campaigns within the United Nations or NGO sector; and,Practical experience of digital content production tools such design and video editing Software.Skills

For this position, fluency inย English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.
