The Shelter Design Engineer is responsible for all assessment of shelters subject for evaluation for the purpose of maintenance/ or re-construction, producing the required design works, including recommending the selection of the appropriate and suitable material (in term of cost, efficiency, safety and durability) monitoring their implementation, supporting problem resolving arising during working, and ensuring work coherence in coordination with other team members. Some travel may be required. Responsibilities1. Conducts thorough structural evaluations of shelters, including those made from reinformed concrete or temporary materials such as scraps, zinc roofs, and asbestos-containing elements, to assess their integrity, safety, and durability and identify potential hazards or weaknesses; prepares detailed reports documenting the findings and recommendations for necessary repairs or further actions. 2. Prepares designs, drawings and calculations for new shelters/ structures, ensuring complying with relevant safety standards, codes, and local regulations. 3. Contacts local authorities and shelter beneficiaries to understand structural requirement and constrain; considering cost-effective and sustainable solutions that are suitable for the environmental and social context of the shelters, ensures they meet the needs of the community while adhering to the best practices, as coordinated with the supervisor. 4. Coordinates with shelter team, including architect draft person, implementation team, to ensure coherence of designs and quality standards. 5. Monitors the structural component of the construction and rehabilitation of shelters ensuring all work adheres to design specifications and resolve issues, that may arise during the implementation. 6. Evaluates construction materials such as steel, concrete, and masonry to enhance structural safety and durability, including analyzing their advantages and drawbacks, and recommends the most efficient and fitting the purpose ones. 7. Supports supervisor in reviewing the structural part of the shop drawings from external consultants, as and when required. 8. Documents the design and construction process of structural components for new and/ or rehabilitated shelters, maintaining accurate records of materials and testing of these components, and updates and reports to the supervisors. 9.
