ย The Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience.ย
ย In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:
ย a) have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities; b) are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for whom internship is required to complete their studies; or c) are sponsored by governmental/non governmental institutions and/or academia to work in specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor. d) are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelorโs level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months. e) are between 20 and 36 years of age.
ย Background Information
โโโโโโThe IOM Shelter and Settlements (S&S) Unit, under the Department of Humanitarian Response and Recovery, is responsible for supporting IOMโs S&S programming around the world. IOM is one of the largest actors in this sector, implementing shelter and settlements programming in 84 countries globally and leading several inter-agency coordination mechanisms at the global, national, and local levels, and driving positive change for shelter actors. ย
โThe global IOM S&S unit provides capacity building for country and regional levels. Part of this capacity building includes for prepositioned materials such as essential household and shelter items. One project related to this is the ECHO ReliefEU Stockpiles project, where IOM prepositions relief items on behalf of ECHO in Nairobi and Barbados. The intern will support this project to enhance ECHOโs capacities for responding to emergencies in the African and Caribbean regions. โโโโโย
Supervision
- The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Senior Shelter and Settlements Officer and in coordination with the Common Pipeline Coordinator and the Nairobi and Barbados office teams.ย Learning Objectives
- โโโSupport the implementation of the ECHO Stockpiles project with specific focus on supporting the establishment of the Barbados Hub but also supporting improving operations for the Nairobi Hub.ย
- โConduct various tasks such as developing communications materials including graphical production, supporting project monitoring and documentation, administration support, and other tasks as requested by the supervisor.ย
- โAssist with documenting lessons learned relating to procurements and movements of goods from the prepositioning hubs. ย
- โConduct data analysis on previous procurements and movements of goods to identify operational improvements and for reporting purposes. ย
- โAssist with coordinating with the Nairobi and Barbados teams including participating in regular meetings. ย
- โAssist with planning trainings and other in-person events as required.ย
- โSupport the wider Shelter & Settlements Unit with other related activities.ย
