WFP ensures the delivery of food and essential supplies to beneficiary countries. The Douala logistics corridor plays a key role in managing maritime freight, customs clearance of shipments, and coordinating land transport to Cameroon, Chad, and the Central African Republic.
The Food Safety & Quality Associate will contribute towards the implementation and/or development of protocols and tools related to food quality and safety, ensuring alignment with WFP Food Safety & Quality, Procurement and Supply Chain strategies, policies and plans.
The FSQ Associate will provide technical support to WFP Cameroon Country Office on local procurement/production activities and programmes. He will support partnership, private sector and government agencies engagement.
Job Purpose:
Contribute towards the implementation and/or development of protocols and tools related to food quality and safety, ensuring alignment with WFP Food Safety & Quality, Procurement and Supply Chain strategies, policies and plans.
Job Responsibilities:
1) Support screening, validation, monitoring and performance evaluation of superintendent/inspection companies for Quality & Quantity activities on food under WFP responsibility in the country. Participate in the technical review of services provided by external contractors; ensure inspection companies are aware of and comply to WFP inspection service requirements and scope of work.
2)Conduct laboratory identification and selection according to WFP quality service provider validation process for quality testing of locally purchased commodities, establish and maintain collaboration with laboratories to improve test methods for analysis of food aid commodities.
3)Ensure Food Incident management SOP is implemented. In the event of food safety incidents, prepare evidence-based recommendations for senior staff on control measures to combat and reduce food commodities loss, and tools to enable rapid response to situations with food safety concern.
4)Assess and proactively manage issues, issues prevention, and communication of lessons learned.
5)Ensure technical support is provided to WFP local suppliers of processed and nutritious food and assess compliance with WFP Food Safety and Quality requirements.
6)Technical support and support for capacity building/strengthening of WFP staff and partners when needed.
7)Support WFP Country Office to build up links with other program streams.
8)Cash-Based Transfer: Ensure food safety and quality risk are assessed and mitigation measures implemented in the early phases and throughout the process considering minimum food safety requirements.
9)School Feeding Programme: assess and identify quality and safety risks and support implementation of control measures that include minimum requirements, conditions and practices.
10)Build productive relationships and partnership with counterpart in government agencies and the private sector to enhance WFP capacity to contribute effectively to the FSQA awareness and improvement.
11)Support the implementation of the WFP FSQ manual and procedures /protocols both upstream and downstream.
12)Effectively implement the food incident management system.
13)Manage the FSQ aspects of local purchases and strengthen supplier capacities.
Required Skills and Experience
Academic Qualification:
University degree in Food Technology
Professional Experience:
-At least 05years of experience in Food quality and safety.
-Strong knowledge of Cameroon and CEMAC food safety and quality regulations and procedures.
Technical Skills:
- Excellent knowledge of food quality and safety
-Strong data analysis skills related to food quality and financial transactions.
-Ability to negotiate with phytosanitary, customs and port authorities.
Behavioral Competencies
-Strong prioritization and decision-making skills under pressure
- Excellent diplomatic and negotiation abilities with stakeholders
- Proactive approach in anticipating administrative customs bottlenecks
-Leadership and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
