Organizational Setting
The Department of Management (MT) provides a \"platform of services\" that serves as a foundation for the successful delivery of the IAEA's scientific and technical programmes. Its mission statement is as follows: \"MT is a partner and a business enabler that champions change and efficiency, leveraging a common purpose\". Thus, among other support activities, it assists a scientific manager in recruiting the right expert, helps a technical officer coordinate the purchase of radiation equipment, and ensures that all Board documents are translated and distributed on a timely basis to Member States.One of the main functions assigned to the IAEA by its Statute is to foster the exchange of scientific and technical information and the dissemination of knowledge in the nuclear field among Member States.
To facilitate the effective exchange and dissemination of information relevant to the IAEA's work and mandate, the Division of Conference and Document Services (MTCD) coordinates and supports the implementation of these activities for its users and clients, both internal and external, by organizing meetings and conferences, issuing documents in the six official IAEA languages, i.e. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish, and editing, printing and distributing publications.
The MTCD Language Services Section (LSS) is responsible for coordinating, managing and delivering language services for the Agency. The Section promotes multilingualism and maintains language standards of the organization through editing and translation of Policy Making Organ (PMO) documents, incoming and outgoing Secretariat documents and correspondence, web articles and advocacy material, Agency publications and other content.
The French Language Service is one of six language teams in the Language Services Section within the Division, responsible for the drafting, editing and translation of content, as required, into French. Content is required to be of a high quality and often short deadlines have to be met
Main Purpose
As a member of a team led by the Service Head, the Senior Language Specialist translates and revises, and as required, drafts and edits a range of administrative, legal, economic, scientific and technical content.
Role
The Senior Language Specialist (Reviser) applies his/her analytical, linguistic and drafting skills to translating texts and to revising texts translated by others, and to drafting and editing content. He/she might need to clarify points of language in French content for other Language Service teams. He/she checks the work of Language Specialist (Translator) staff and freelancers for accuracy, completeness, comprehensibility, style and presentation and is responsible for the quality of the content which pass through his/her hands. His/her duties may include the planning and coordination of the work of small groups of Professional staff and/or freelancers. The Senior Language Specialist (Reviser) supports the Service Head with assessing the competence of the team members, as well as new talent, as required.
Functions / Key Results Expected
The Senior Language Specialist (Reviser) may be responsible for all or some of the following functions:
- Translate into French a broad range of administrative, legal, scientific and technical content ensuring that translations are equivalent in meaning and style to the original content.
- Revise content in French produced by other staff members and freelancers in the Service team, covering a broad range of administrative, legal, scientific and technical content.
- Edit content in French as required.
- Draft and/or revise summary records of official Policy Making Organs (PMO) meetings, as required.
- Clarify points of language in French content for other Language Service teams.
- Research points of terminology to assist in the development of the central terminology database.
- Suggest innovative solutions and workflow efficiencies, as appropriate, to streamline the work of the Service.
- Provide training and guidance to the French Language Service team and, when required, linguistic training and guidance to the Multilingual Production Team.
- Deputize for the Service Head when required

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills
Master's Degree - Advanced university degree in languages or a related field.
At least seven years of relevant professional experience in the field of translation.
Minimum of four years of experience in an international organization, public sector or non-profit organization, or
equivalent.
French as mother tongue or principal language of education, with a profound knowledge of its grammar, style and usage.
Familiarity with the IAEA and its operations is an asset.
Knowledge of and experience in using Microsoft Office software and IT translation tools, in particular Trados Studio and Multiterm.
Experience in supervising small teams of translators would be an asset.
Excellent oral and written command of English and French. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
Remuneration
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $84672 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 33869*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; Other benefits include 6 weeks' annual leave, home leave travel, pension plan and health insurance. Appointment information
Appointment is subject to a satisfactory medical report. Staff members may be assigned to any location. Candidates appointed to posts in the Professional and higher categories are subject to IAEA rotation policy and their maximum tour of service shall normally be seven years. The IAEA retains the discretion not to make any appointment to this vacancy, to make an appointment at a lower grade or with a different contract type, or to make an appointment with a modified job description or for shorter duration than indicated above.
