General Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Global Photography, the Senior Global Content Producer will help to plan complex international asset gathering trips, and will be deployed on 4-6 of these trips per year. While deployed, the Senior Global Content Producer is responsible for conducting thoughtful and creative interviews with Mercy Corpsโ€™ program participants, staff, partners, and others, which will be used for a wide variety of purposes, such as fundraising campaigns, web stories and donor communications. In this role, they will be on the front lines of our work, and will often serve as the face of the Global team to project participants, country teams, experts, consultants and others. The Producer will frequently work in remote, insecure, and dangerous locations. When not deployed, the Producer will help to manage and execute the pre-production process, as well as help to package and distribute assets during post-production. They will also write finished pieces to support fundraising and communication objectives.

The Producer will work in close partnership with multiple teams, including Creative, Marketing, Communications, programs, SPOs (Sr. Program Managers), TSUs (Technical Support Units), and country teams.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Strategy and Vision

Translate complex issues into compelling and accessible content that is user-friendly for a diverse array of needs, including donor communications, web stories, email campaigns, and social media. Work with the Director of Global Photography to develop and refine asset gathering processes and Support the annual asset gathering planning process, helping to plan and participate in cross-departmental and SPO meetings. Represent the asset gathering team in departmental meetings. Pre-Production Act as a project manager, developing and managing asset gathering timelines and deliverables, ensuring timely delivery to stakeholders. Work with the Director of Global Photography to ensure Mercy Corpsโ€™ core pillars and thematic issue areas are covered during asset gathering trips. Work with in-country procurement teams to hire and manage translators and transcribers, ensuring quality of work. Deployment Work with the Director of Global Photography to manage and execute 4-6 international asset gathering trips per year, often to insecure/dangerous locations. Bring Mercy Corps stories to life through insightful, thoughtful, authentic interviews that tell the story of our work and the people behind it, conducting between 20-30 interviews per trip with project participants, staff, partners and experts. Manage the consent process during asset gathering trips, communicating Mercy Corpsโ€™ consent policy to team members, program participants, and translators. Work with the Social Media team to obtain photos, videos, and stories, to be produced into social media content as needed. Support the training of new freelancers under the supervision of Director of Global Photography, as needed. Lead freelancers on asset gathering trips as needed. Deploy to emergency responses as needed. Provide trainings for country teams on participant interviewing and storytelling. Post-Production Compile, write, and distribute a content catalog with 20-30 story briefs for each asset gathering trip, as well as one photo captions document per trip. Create written, bylined pieces for external publication, in cooperation with the Editorial Manager and Creative Team. Provide additional writing support as needed.Supervisory Responsibility : None

Reports Directly To: Director of Global Photography

Works Directly With: Other teams within Brand Marketing and MarComms Teams, including Creative, Digital Marketing, and Communications; RD audience teams, SPOs, in-country communications staff, in-country staff, and other global staff.

Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills

BA/S or equivalent in a relevant field required โ€“ Journalism, English, creative writing or related field. 4+ years of experience writing for a variety of audiences. Diverse portfolio of writing samples required. Excellent interviewing skills that help create accurate, thorough, and emotionally evocative content, with the ability to navigate complex issues surrounding inequality and inequity, as well as sensitivity to those who have experienced conflict, insecurity and economic vulnerability. Familiarity with high ethical standards for interviewing and asset gathering. Ability to conduct interviews and write with a style and voice that is consistent with the Mercy Corps brand. Superior written and verbal communications skills are a must. Able to distill concepts and translate technical language into compelling human stories. International travel experience is Experience working in complex and hostile environments is strongly preferred. Skilled in project management, vendor management, and complex trip planning. Skilled in intercultural communication. Comfortable working in environments that regularly involve cultural barriers. Strong strategic thinker, with excellent teamwork and organizational skills, and attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate clearly and passionately, both in writing and verbally. Positive attitude and solution-oriented approach to work is a must. Fluency in English, written and verbal; fluency or some level of language ability in languages where Mercy Corps works is a plus. Familiarity with Mercy Corpsโ€™ work preferred.Success Factors

The successful Producer will be a talented and experienced interviewer and creative writer, who can connect the Mercy Corps brand with the target audienceโ€™s perspective through storytelling. They are a keen strategist who can contribute to developing complex annual asset gathering plans and processes. They are a seasoned international traveler, who is comfortable working long days in remote and sometimes dangerous places. They will have an appetite for going anywhere that important stories are happening, frequently to insecure locations experiencing active conflict or natural disasters. They are able to think clearly under pressure and make decisions quickly on the ground, always ensuring that high quality assets are delivered. Flexibility is crucial in this position, as situations and needs often change rapidly.

With strong organizational and interpersonal skills, this person is able to work collaboratively and effectively with our global teams in both the pre-production and post-production phases of trips, and is able to work and communicate effectively with staff and project participants from a variety of backgrounds. The ideal candidate is an agile writer who takes feedback constructively and views writing as a collaborative process. They work well independently when necessary, and are able to function as part of a larger team as well.

This position can be based remotely anywhere in the US. International travel (up to 35%) to remote locations is required with this position. Estimated travel includes four to six, 2-3 week trips annually. This position requires exceptional work schedules, including evenings and weekends, 12-16 hour days, and 2-3 weeks at a time with no days off. Security conditions are volatile, with a range of violence and insecurity, requiring close monitoring and vigilance.

Mercy Corps team members represent the agency both during and outside work hours when deployed in a field posting or on a visit/TDY to a field posting.
