The Team

The Finance Systems Team (FST) within the IT team is responsible for leading and coordinating the implementation of Mercy Corpsโ€™ global financial accounting and reporting software. The team also provides technical user support and is responsible for developing and distributing certain financial reports.

The Position

The Senior Financial Report Developer and Administrator will help update the global financial reporting strategy and will define standards and processes for report development and distribution. The position will develop and maintain financial reporting templates in support of Mercy Corpsโ€™ global financial software implementation, ensuring the accuracy and clarity of all financial reporting information. The position will manage the global distribution process for standard monthly reporting packages to country office locations worldwide as well as maintain the standardized reporting templates to support queries, transaction processing, and management information. This position will assist with the implementation of reporting and analysis tools to expand and improve Mercy Corpsโ€™ financial reporting capabilities and use of data.

Essential Responsibilities

REPORT DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE

Define standards and processes for report template design, development, testing, and management.

Develop and maintain standardized financial reporting templates for use with Mercy Corpsโ€™ global financial software, Serenic Navigator, and report writing software, Jet Reports.

Develop and maintain award-specific budget versus actual (BVA) reports for use by country programs in managing their awards based on specifications provided.

Develop and maintain the standard set of internal financial management reports for country programs based on specifications.

Develop ad hoc reports as necessary.

Develop and maintain report template library and documentation of report specifications.

REPORT DISTRIBUTION AND ACCESS

Define standards and models for financial report distribution to and access by worldwide country programs and HQ country support teams.

Administer financial report distribution and access models for worldwide country programs and HQ teams.

Ensure the proper functioning of automated report distribution methods using the Jet Reports scheduler and other automated tools.

Ensure timely distribution of country reporting packages and BVA reports, adhering to internal service level agreements.

Institute and manage practice for archival of published reports

Maintain report catalog of all official reports for use by country and HQ teams.

OTHER

Test and evaluate new and changing report tool functionalities

Serve as resident expert of the reporting tools and provide technical support to other report developers

Plan and manage maintenance, including annual upgrades, of Jet Reports software

Support the evolution of reporting framework as Mercy Corps plans to build a data warehouse and implement Microsoft 365

Other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills

BA/S or equivalent in finance, accounting, computer or applied sciences or a relevant field is required

5+ of financial reporting experience in a medium to large organization, with an emphasis on management and analytical reporting is required.

Experience designing financial reports using Excel-based software,Jet Reports is preferred.

Demonstrated experience developing standards and processes for effective report management is required.

Demonstrated experience and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, financial reporting, accounting systems and structured accounting data, budget development and administration is required.

Effective spoken and written communication, analytical, organizational and prioritization skills

Highly advanced Microsoft Excel skills

Experience with not-for-profit fund accounting, grant management reporting, and foreign currencies is preferred.

Experience with sophisticated implementation of Microsoft 365, specifically Sharepoint and Teams is preferred

Experience with Adaptive Insights, Sequel Server Reporting Services, and business intelligence tools is preferred.

Success Factors

This position requires initiative, curiosity, attention to detail and process, a zeal for accuracy, and a solid understanding of structured accounting data and construction of financial reports. This position also requires an ability to design and implement business standards and processes to manage report development, maintenance, and distribution, with a focus on internal controls. The successful candidate must be a highly organized self-starter with the ability to communicate clearly and to meet deadlines. Candidate must be able to initiate and maintain positive relationships with business owners on Finance and IT teams. Heavy collaboration and coordination with the business owners means that the ability to work well on a team is crucial to success in this position, alternately leading and following teams when appropriate, always contributing. The successful candidate will be actively committed to the continual advancement of Mercy Corpsโ€™ financial data and reporting systems.
