Work Locationhome based Expected duration01.05.25 - 31.07.25 Duties and ResponsibilitiesUnder the strategic guidance of the Director of Investment and Enterprise (DIAE), the consultant will: - Carry out strategic research and analysis on financing for development and the development of the private sector, including on facilitating the de-risking of SDG projects. - Provide strategic guidance on the preparations for key UNCTAD events and outputs for 2025 including UNCTAD 16th Ministerial Quadrennial Conference (UNCTAD XVI), UNCTAD World Investment Forum and World Investment Report, as well as major international events and processes in the area of investment for development, including the Financing for Development (FfD) Conference. - In full collaboration with UNCTAD NYO, provide substantive guidance on the current investment for development process for engaging with sustainable finance stakeholders based in North America, including multilateral development banks and development finance institutions with the objective to identify partnerships to enhance the impact and reach of DIAE's work. - Drafts two inputs on reform topics related to the international investment agreement (IIA) regime, with an emphasis on the interplay between climate action and IIA commitments, including investor-State dispute settlement (ISDS) cases and on advancing public policy goals in IIAs related to the G20 workstream on trade and investment. Qualifications/special skillsAdvanced university degree, Master, in international business, economic or related field is required. At least 10 years working experience in research and analysis, and advisory work in the area of economic development, investment, private sector development is required. Work experience in stakeholder engagement. Experience and familiarity with UN processes and the UN system, especially as regards substantive inputs to high-level Conferences and Summits is desirable.
