About this position
The Integration and Trade Sector (INT) of the Vice Presidency for Sectors and Knowledge seeks an outstanding and experienced trade economist to lead its policy research program at Headquarters in Washington, D.C. The sector has a long tradition and a strong record of policy research, whose main motivation has been to consolidate, expand, and better distribute the welfare and growth gains of integration and trade.
INT assists member countries in designing and implementing trade, investment, and integration policies that facilitate economic growth, development, and poverty reduction. INT鈥檚 research area is responsible for elaborating and implementing the sector鈥檚 knowledge agenda, which aims to inform IDB鈥檚 operations and policy dialogue on trade and integration.
What you鈥檒l do:
The selected candidate will perform the following activities:
- Lead the evaluation of integration, trade, and investment policies and institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean and provide policy recommendations to IDB鈥檚 member countries.
- Lead the preparation and supervise the execution of INT鈥檚 knowledge agenda ensuring the elaboration of knowledge products abides by the highest scientific standards.
- Contribute to the integration of technical knowledge and analysis into the design, monitoring, and evaluation of INT鈥檚 operations and technical cooperations.
- Coordinate, supervise, and write INT鈥檚 working papers and research flagships, as well as develop their dissemination through professional journals and internal and external workshops and conferences.
- Promote joint research projects and dialogue with other areas of the IDBG; multilateral, regional, international, and national institutions; and leading universities.
- Promote a policy dialogue with IDB member countries on integration, trade, and investment.
- Contribute to the IDB鈥檚 country programming exercises and policy dialogues.
- Contribute to the formulation of the IDB鈥檚 overall knowledge strategy and its evaluation through active participation in the IDB鈥檚 Knowledge Committee.
- Actively seek to disseminate relevant innovative academic research and facilitate knowledge exchange between IDB Group divisions and departments.
- Work in close coordination with the Trade and Investment Division (TIN), the Regional Integration Unit (RIU), and the Institute for the Integration of Latin America and the Caribbean (INTAL).
What you鈥檒l need:
路 Education: You hold a PhD degree in Economics.
路 Experience: You have a minimum of 15 years of professional experience with policy research and data analysis in international trade, investment, and integration. A solid record of publications, particularly in leading international trade journals is a plus.
路 Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is a plus.
