We are seeking a skilled and motivated Safety Officer to join our team in Juba. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the safety and security of our operations, enabling us to deliver impactful humanitarian solutions in challenging environments.
About the Role
The Safety Officer (SO) is responsible for ensuring the effective application of DRCโs Safety Risk Management System (SRMS) under the direction of the Country Safety Coordinator. The role involves identifying risks in operational contexts, providing risk mitigation advice, delivering daily briefings and context assessments, and responding rapidly to field needs.
Working closely with the Head of Safety and the Emergency Manager, the SO will contribute to security planning, risk assessments, and incident investigations, and will serve as a key liaison with authorities, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Advise and update the Head of Safety on all security matters within the mission. Ensure implementation of Mobile response team safety SOPs and emergency evacuation plans; identify areas where recommendations are not followed. Conduct scheduled and ad hoc risk assessments with mitigation strategies and contingency plans. Investigate critical incidents in coordination with the Head of Safety and Emergency Manager. Maintain information networks and liaise with security agencies, local focal points, and other organizations in the mission area. Engage with authorities and stakeholders to promote awareness of humanitarian principles. Prepare clearance documents for equipment prior to field deployment. Provide pre-departure briefings and post-mission debriefings, including action plans. Support logistics for MRT deployments, including airport clearance and approvals. Assist in delivering safety training and SOP workshops for the MRT team. Submit SITREPs and compile incident reports as required. Maintain updated security situation maps and movement tracking for all DRC activities. Conduct safety assessments for Mobile Response Team (MRT) operations. Act as safety/security focal point for mobile response locations. Provide regular security briefings to staff and ensure adherence to security protocols during missions. Review movement plans prior to submission to the Head of Safety.Requirements
Diploma in Security Management or related field (relevant professional experience may be accepted in lieu of formal qualifications). Computer literacy, including MS Office applications. Proven experience conducting threat and risk assessments with mitigation and contingency planning. Experience in radio communications and field reporting (including hourly check-ins for mobile missions). Ability to ensure communication equipment is maintained in good working order. Strong interpersonal, analytical, and coordination skills.
