Work LocationThe internship in on fulltime and will be located in UNODC Programme Office in Madagarscar Expected durationApr 2024 - Sep 2024 Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe internship position is located in the Regional Office for Eastern Africa (ROEA), Division for Operations (DO) of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Antananarivo, Madagascar. The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the UNODC Regional Representative for Eastern Africa (ROEA) and the substantive guidance of the Chief of Implementation Support Section (ISS) II of the Border Management Branch (BMB), Division for Treaty Affairs (DTA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna, Austria. The incumbent will report to the Programme Management Officer (Transnational Organized Crime, Illicit Trafficking and Terrorism Programmes) based at ROEA in Antananarivo, Madagascar. Specific tasks to be performed by the intern: The intern will assist the TOC Programme Management Officer heading the Programme and support the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer in Madagascar in all programme activities related to countering transnational organized crime and terrorism in Madagascar. Within assigned authority, the intern shall undertake the following duties which may include but are not limited to: โ€ข Conduct research on topics of relevance to UNODC Madagascar Programme (e.g. Various forms of TIP prevailing in Madagascar); โ€ข Support the programme team with the drafting and editing of reports, concept note, presentations, background documents, official communications, press releases, talking points, speeches and articles; โ€ข Assist in the preparation of technical assistance workshops, meetings, high-level events and conferences; โ€ข Perform other work-related duties as assigned. Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: โ€ข Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelorโ€™s level or equivalent) (preferably in the area of Global Governance, Political and Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Public Administration, Economics, Law, International Affairs or other related field). (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION); โ€ข Be computer literate in standard software applications; โ€ข Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and โ€ข Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
