Purpose of the project: Support the launch of a Refugee Speakers Program, and support the Officeโs initiatives to enhance the participation of refugees in Switzerland and Liechtenstein
General Background:
Asylum and integration policies have a decisive impact on the lives of refugees. Nevertheless, refugees have less influence on the shaping of these policies. Decisions with major effect on their future are taken by authorities, NGOs or other institutions โ often with little consideration of refugeesโ own plans and skills. Projects, panels and structures are designed โforโ refugees and too seldom โwithโ refugees.
Against this background, UNHCR Office for Switzerland and Liechtenstein is eager to promote participatory approaches and build a strong network with refugees and refugee communities. It is crucial for the Office's future engagement that refugees are perceived as important partners on strategical and operational level.
The tasks of the Refugee Advisor include:
โข Support the launch of the Refugee Speakers Program with the selection of candidates, preparation of workshops and individualized coaching (30%);
โข Collaborate with the Swiss and Liechtenstein Refugee Team and contribute to its development (5%);
โข Connect with refugee communities/refugee-led organizations and influential individual refugees in Switzerland and Liechtenstein (5%);
โข Advise on the development of materials, tools and projects targeting refugees and refugee communities (5%);
โข Any other tasks related to the development of participatory approaches (5%).
Level of responsibilities required: Entry Level Support
Minimum requirements for the individual contractor are: The individual contractor is a refugee and has been granted asylum in Switzerland (permit B or C); provisionally been admitted, but meanwhile been granted a permit B or C or has been a refugee, but meanwhile been naturalized.
Qualification and experience required: Experience with organizing and conducting workshops, good network with refugee communities in Switzerland, outstanding communication and social skills; good IT-skills (MS Office, especially Word, Excel and Power Point), experience in working in teams and in public performances. Very good skills in either German or French, working knowledge of a second national language and/or English is an advantage.
The individual contractor will have to report on a weekly basis orally about the progress made to the Senior External Relations Associate. She/he will have to submit/deliver until 30 June 2024:
31 January Draft concept note for the Refugee Speakers Program workshops
15 February Selection and interviews of the candidates to the Program
29 February Workshop concepts finalized, date and time set
31 March First workshop
30 April Second workshop
31 May Third workshop + personalized coaching sessions
20 June World Refugee Day event
Individual contractor will be working partly from home, with at least one day of work from the Office a week.
This is a part-time position (50%).
