ย  The Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience.ย 
ย  In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:
ย  a) have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities; b) are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for whom internship is required to complete their studies; or c) are sponsored by governmental/non governmental institutions and/or academia to work in specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor. d) are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelorโ€™s level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months. e) are between 20 and 36 years of age.
ย  Background Information ย 

Located in IOMโ€™s Dakar Regional Office, under direct supervision of theย Regional Data and Stabilisation Officer and over all supervision of the RTS Data and Research,ย the successful candidate will integrate the Regional Officeโ€™s Regional Data Hub (RDH). This unit is dedicated to providing data and analysis expertise and guidance for implementing the IOM Strategic Plan. The RDH strengthens the regional evidence base on migration by providing technical support and capacity development to IOM offices, regional bodies, member states and other stakeholders on migration and displacement data; and supporting the uptake of knowledge and evidence to inform policies and programmes. Activities and objectives of the RDH are in line with the priorities of delivering data for action, insight and foresight.

This position will be based within the RDH team in Dakar, Senegal and will be focused on supporting the quality control structures for DTM analytic outputs in the region.ย  Supervision

  • Under the lead ofย theย Regional Data and Stabilisation Officer andย RTS Data and Research Learning Objectives
    • Under the lead ofย theย Regional Data and Stabilisation Officer andย RTS Data and Research,ย contribute toย theย production,ย analysis,ย writing, editing and publication of timely and accurate DTM reports, factsheets, and dashboards with the set deadlines and unit plans.
    • Produce summary statistics, analysis and narrative for regional reports of solutions and mobility index (SMI), transhumance tracking tool (TTT) and climate vulnerability assessment (CVA) activities in the region.ย 
    • Centralize, clean and process DTM data for DTMโ€™s main migration data activities in the Regional Data Warehouse (RDW) in SQL
    • Support the development and drafting of SMI, TTT and CVA reports produced by Country Offices;ย 
    • Assist in the production, review and interpretation of data in the above products, including datasets, maps, profiles, analysis, dashboards, reports, etc., through the established quality assurance process to facilitate the timely and accurate dissemination of information to partners.
    • Ad-hoc support to country offices on database building, XLS forms, IM products, GIS, etc.
    • Provide support in analysis and interpretation of data as well as in review of DTM documents requiring remote assistance to DTM Missions, as needed.
    • Support data management and new initiatives, including drafting new assessment forms, data collection tools, operational activities, or reporting initiatives and timelines
    • Contribute to data quality control throughout the information management cycle to ensure alignment with DTM standards and IOM Data Protection Principles.
    • Assist the DTM Country Missions in the production and quality control of documents, coordinating with global DTM support teams on final output.
    • Conduct literature/desk reviews and stay abreast of migration-related data products covering the region to validate and contextualize DTMโ€™s findings.
    • Coordinate with global DTM support team to ensure continuity of functional workflows;
    • Provide administrative and logistical support when needed
    • Perform any other tasks as assigned. Training Components and Learning Elements
      • By the end of the assignment, the participant will be able to contribute to the production and dissemination of high-quality DTM reports and dashboards; support the drafting, processing, and analysis of regional migration data; and coordinate with country offices on technical support and quality assurance. They will apply knowledge of key thematic areas (e.g., solutions, climate vulnerability, transhumance), assist in new data initiatives, and ensure data quality and protection standards. Education Masterโ€™s degree from an accredited academic institution in a field of study related toย Economics /ย Development Economics, Data Science, Political Science, Social Science, Development Studies,ย Public health, Epidemiologyย or other relevant disciplines with a significant quantitative component.ย Alternatively,ย aย bachelorโ€™s/undergraduate degree in the abovementioned fieldsย with demonstrableย relevantย workingย experience. ย  Experience

Experienceย inย quantitative and qualitativeย researchย methods Experience using data visualization and publication software such as the Adobe suite (Illustrator and InDesign)ย 

Experience organizing webinars, training sessions and other events ย  Languages Excellentย communicationย skillsย in English and Frenchย (writtenย andย oral). ย  IOMโ€™s official languages are English, French and Spanish. Fluency in Arabic or Spanish (written and oral) is advantageous.
