Mission and objectivesThe United Nations World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes. Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need. Research, Assessment, and Monitoring (RAM) unit plays a key role in providing evidence-based analysis to guide WFP Armeniaโs programming. By collecting, analyzing, and visualizing data, the unit informs strategic decision-making, monitors project implementation, and evaluates outcomes to ensure efficient and impactful interventions. ContextWFP Armenia has strong evidence-based approach for the design, targeting, implementation, monitoring and accountability of its programme and activities. WFP is on the way of strengthening and integrating innovative and digital solutions for more robust data collection and analysis alongside the full implementation of its Country Strategic Plan (CSP) for 2026-2030. WFP Armenia implements a range of projects across the food value chain, including livelihood support, irrigation systems, climate-smart agriculture, school feeding programs, and logistics hub development. Targeting, monitoring and assessing these projects require accurate and up-to-date spatial data to support planning, reporting, and decision-making. The UN Volunteer will strengthen the unitโs capacity to manage GIS databases, operate drones for field data collection, and support the visualization of monitoring and assessment results.

Living conditions and remarksArmenia is an upper middle-income country with around 3 million population. In 2025 it was ranked 8th in the 2025 Numbeo Safety Index out of 147 countries reflecting low crime perceptions and high safety ratings. Past military action has occurred near the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. As of today, the situation at the borders is stable, however, it is recommended to exercise caution on roads near Armenia's border with Azerbaijan. Yerevan is the countryโs capital and largest city offering better living conditions than rural areas with wider access to jobs, education, healthcare, and modern housing. Yerevan is generally a safe city with active cultural and social life but faces some challenges such as traffic congestion and air pollution.
