The Protection Coordinator will be based in NRC Nyala Office supporting operations. The project in aims to improve the protection response to displacement-affected communities by establishing mechanisms to enhance:ย
Communication with Communities: Sharing information with and receiving feedback from displaced and vulnerable host communitiesย Community Engagement: Participation of affected communities alongside local stakeholders in the humanitarian and development responseย Support to Coordination: Efficient, effective, and inclusive coordination of services at local level, involving a range of stakeholders (authorities, civil society, NGOs, private sector, etc.).ย Individual Protection Assistance: Proactive accompaniment, referrals, cash and in kind assistance to people are risk.ย Protection Monitoring, Assessments and Analysis: Leading teams to conduct and report on protection assessments, monitoring, and analysis.ยThe Protection Coordinator will enhance community outreach by planning and supervising the implementation, referrals, and coordination of protection activities, while supporting the establishment and capacity building of community committees and coordinating with relevant stakeholders.ย

1.ย Role and Responsibilitiesย
The purpose of the Protection Coordinator position is to coordinate teams and activities in order to implement Protection activites in NRC Sudan Nyalaย
The following is a brief description of the role.ย
Generic responsibilitiesย
Line management of Protection project field staff.ย Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures and awareness of NRC global and regional strategiesย Contribute to Protection from Violence (PfV) strategy development, project proposals and provide input on needs and gaps, considering where appropriate the role of cash-based interventions and market based programmesย Manage and implement delegated portfolio of Protection projects (activities, budget and project documentation) as delegated from PDM in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements, and ensure high technical qualityย Provide regular progress reports to Protection PM in the area.ย Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and asses new and better ways to assistย Promote and share ideas for improvement and necessary changes in the activitiesย Ensure capacity building of project staff and partners and transfer key skillsย Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholdersย Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees/refugees in line with the advocacy strategyยย
Specific responsibilitiesย
Field supervisor of weekly operations of community centres, and mobile teams within the delegated geographical areas of responsibility and performance management of staffย Understake annual and monthly planning of project activities and spending plans according to donor proposals and budgets.ย Collaborate with Protection PM to develop tools and materials as needed for project implementation (5Ws, Service mapping, surveys, questionairs, M&E tools etc)ย Lead daily, weekly, and monthly Protection team planning and operational coordination (for PfV teams in the Field Office), including on Support functions (on budgets and spending, recruitment, administrative liaison, grants reporting, monitoring and evaluation)ย Oversee and manage programme quality of PfV team activities in Nyala operation, including accountability to and effective engagement with affected peopleย Contribute to risk management framework for programming in NRC Sudan Nyala Area Office, and support in implementing risk mitigation measuresย Ensure Protection project activities are fully documented for financial, reporting, accountability, learning, and communication purposes.ย Undertake regular field visits to spot check and monitor project progress and performance.ย Conduct regular external coordination with Key Stakeholders (authorities, Sector leads, Community leaders etc).ย Quality management of community engagement and processes of field reportingย Review project documentation filled/compiled by field staff, monitoring and giving feedback on quality of the completed documents, and ensuring that templates/tools are fit for purpose (according to M&E plans and donor requirements)ย Monitor and enhance technical quality of project implementation through regular field visits to supervise staff on the-job; provide feeback accordingly and in, in collaboration with the Protection PM, and Protection Specialist/PDM, provide or recommend relevant capacity building of project staff.ย Provide the Protection PM, Area Programme Manager, and Protection Specialist with required reports and input for development of strategies and project proposals, including feedback on successes, and challenges.ย Overview of all project management documents (spending plans, budget VS actuals, procurement plans, Workplans, Output and Outcome tracking etc) and ensure documents are updated monthly.ยLocal actorโs responsibilitiesย
Provide day-to-day technical and operational coordination with implementing partners delivering PFV activities at area level, ensuring alignment with approved workplans, scopes of work, partnership agreements, and NRC programme standards.ย Support PFV technical partner assessments at area level, track partner performance and capacity gaps, and contribute to the design and follow-up of CC-specific capacity-sharing plans in coordination with the Partnerships team.ย Monitor partner performance during implementation, including progress against timelines, quality of activities, community engagement, and compliance with protection, accountability, and safeguarding standards.ย Support targeted, on-the-job technical capacity sharing with partners during implementation, including CC concepts and approaches, activity planning, reporting quality, referral pathways, community engagement, and protection principles, in close coordination with Partnerships, MEL, and other relevant NRC teams.ย Contribute to documenting implementation-level lessons learned and good practices from partner-led PFV activities, ensuring findings inform programme adaptation, reporting, and future partnership design.ยย
