5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

The Organisation

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances childrenโ€™s rights and equality for girls. We believe in the power and potential of every child but know this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it is girls who are most affected.

Working together with children, young people, supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges girls and vulnerable children face. We support childrenโ€™s rights from birth until they reach adulthood and we enable children to prepare for and respond to crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.

For over 85 years, we have rallied other determined optimists to transform the lives of all children in more than 80 countries.

We wonโ€™t stop until we are all equal.

Background

International tourism plays a more important role in the global economy than ever, accounting for 10% of global GDP. While the worldwide growth of tourism can have multiple economic and social benefits, there is also a consensus about the risk of children being (sexually) exploited in tourism. The tourism sector has acknowledged their corporate social responsibility on this human rights violation.

This project is initiated by the TUI Group, one of the worldโ€™s leading tourism groups. The project focuses on child labour and child protection, in particular preventing (sexual) exploitation of children and youth (a worst form of child labour specifically targeted by ILO convention 182), through: promoting due diligence processes amongst the private sector; offering sustainable, decent economic opportunities to young women and men, in TUI and non-TUI Hotels & Resorts; building capacity of children and youth to become agents of change for child protection; and multi-stakeholder engagement.
