Mission and objectivesUNESCO Regional Office for South Asia, the Organizationโs first decentralized Office in Asia was established in 1948. UNESCO Regional Office for South Asia is presently designated as a Regional Office and is a platform for delivery of activities in all areas of UNESCOโs competence, namely, education, the natural and social sciences, culture, communication and information. It implements a biennial regional programme that is integrated within itself and with the overall goals of the Organization. This is done through a fundamental operating principle โ consultation and consensus with the Member States, Regional Bureaus, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders and partners.
ContextThe UN Volunteer will assist the Communications and Public Engagement Division and support the Partnership and Resource Mobilization Division of the UNESCO Regional Office for South Asia in the implementation of its programme in South Asia to achieve the above stated Organizationโs mission and objectives
Task DescriptionUnder the overall authority of the Director of UNESCO Regional Office for South Asia and supervision of the Communications and Public Relations Officer, the UN University Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: โข Assist in preparation for communication and social media campaigns. โข Maintaining and improving the websiteโs content management system (Drupal). โข Preparation of press briefings, sending of press releases and updating of mailing lists for efficient external media relations. โข Participate in shooting and post-production at UNESCO events. โข Provide editorial and technical assistance on publication projects. โข Contribute to projects linked to promoting the UNESCO brand. โข Support the Partnership and RM officer in maintaining effective coordination between technical program teams to identify and prioritize key problem statements for designing innovative concepts โข Coordinate the management of agreements with New Delhi and HQ team to ensure that donor agreements are compliant with UNESCO policies and procedures, and that corporate systems for tracking non-core resources are kept up-to-date โข Facilitate the drafting, consolidation and review of donor proposals, ensuring that proposals are high-quality โข Support in improving the visibility of the UNESCO programme, in close collaboration with communications colleagues โข Edit draft speeches and other documents received by the Director from the various programme sectors โข Prepare short monthly work reports and an end of the volunteering contract Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: โข Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for in-stance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); โข Contribute to building traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; โข Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities; โข Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publica-tions/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; โข Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; โข Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Living conditions and remarksNew Delhi, as a duty station, presents a dynamic and diverse environment. The living condi-tions in this vibrant metropolis offer a mix of cultural richness, historical significance, and mod-ern amenities. The city provides various housing options, catering to different preferences and needs. New Delhi's cosmopolitan atmosphere allows for easy integration into its multicultural society. While the city boasts a range of international schools, medical facilities, and recrea-tional opportunities, it is essential to be mindful of factors such as air quality and traffic con-gestion. Additionally, due diligence is essential, especially when it comes to being cautious with street food and water. As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in New Delhi. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.
