UNEP coordinates the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP's Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners to provide technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy, and to strengthen the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. This Internship position is located at the UNEP office in Nairobi, Kenya with the intended purpose of supporting the Ecosystems Division programme coordination and management. Under the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Assistant and overall guidance by Chief, Programme Support Unit, the intern will: โ€ข Assist in keeping under review Division's project implementation progress and reporting through Ecosystems Division Project Portfolio Dashboard and Integrated Planning, Monitoring and Reporting (IPMR). โ€ข Support in keeping under review projects' cycle management including operational closure โ€ข Assist in data entry, validation and accuracy of project-related information in IPMR and in the relevant databases and systems. โ€ข Assist in analyzing the status of financial implementation through available information systems. โ€ข Assist in quality assurance review of publication concepts and full publications by ensuring alignment with the UNEP Publishing Policy and Guidelines. โ€ข Assist in tracking publications and concepts clearance process in the on publications system and update the quality assurance process in the Publications Master file and in the online tracking tool. โ€ข Provide flexible and ad hoc support to unit functions, as and when required. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). In addition to: Be computer literate in standard software applications. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Excellent written and spoken communication skills are required. Bachelorโ€™s Degree or currently enrolled in a bachelor's Programme. Background in, Statistics, Project Management, International Relations, International Business Administration or another related field LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
