ย The Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience.ย
ย In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:
ย a) have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities; b) are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for whom internship is required to complete their studies; or c) are sponsored by governmental/non governmental institutions and/or academia to work in specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor. d) are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelorโs level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months. e) are between 20 and 36 years of age.
ย Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and direct supervision of the Project Development and Reporting Officer (PDRO), and in coordination with IOM country offices with liaison and resource mobilization functions (CORMFs) and the Regional Thematic Specialist (RTS) in the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP), the Intern - Programme Support Unit (PSU) willย contribute to PSU functions, including resource mobilization efforts to advance IOM's strategic objectives in PNG.
- Support and directly contribute to the drafting and consolidation of the concept notes, project proposals that respond to emerging trends and priorities in compliance with IOM internal guidance and instructions, and in alignment with donors strategic priorities in the region as well as IOM strategy and priorities, and submit in PRIMA. Coordinate closely with the PDRO , the Resources Management Officer (RMO), project managers/coordinators, donors, government counterparts and other project partners.
- Assist with the coordination of inputs for information requests from HQ, the RO, other IOM COs and external partners, such as donors, government, RCO, partner agencies, and implementing partners.
- Assist in the development of country office strategic plans, which are in line with the IOMโs Pacific Strategy, Regional Strategy for Asia and the Pacific, Global Strategic Plan and the Missionโs involvement in the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) priorities in PNG.ย
- Act as a Focal Point forย Project Information and Management Application (PRIMA)ย for the CO, providing support to project managers/coordinators with PRIMA-related tasks.
- Participate in inter-agency meetings, workshops, and conferences, including those of the United Nations Programme Management Team (PMT) and relevant sectoral and working groups. Provide support by taking notes and following up on action points from these meetings.
- Assist with the identification of potential funding sources and stay abreast of funding opportunities and cycles in close coordination with HQ, the RO andย CORMFs.ย
- Assist with the liaison efforts with donors, UN partners, and governmental and non-governmental stakeholders. Maintain effective working relationship with donors and potential donors, liaising, as necessary, with the RO and CORMFs.
- Assist with desk research to inform the development of new project proposals and talking points for the Chief of Mission and the leadership team.
- Assist in the coordination of the drafting of interim and final reports and/or support Project Managers/Coordinators to ensure timely submission of donor reports, in compliance with donor agreements and requirements.
- Assist withย donor reporting queries, maintain and follow up on deadlines, and support the coordination of CO inputs to various institutional and external reporting processes, including acting as the Focal Point for UNINFO.ย
- Assist knowledge management by maintaining project records and a central repository of results for the Country Office (CO) through PSU SharePoint. Share and coordinate other relevant information across Mission Units.
- Undertake other tasks as may be assigned according to relevant experience and academic background.

- Gain knowledge in IOMโs areas of intervention, including disaster management, emergency preparedness and response, migration and border management, migration health as well as gain insight into working in an international multi-cultural environment, within the United Nations system.ย
Education
Masterโs degree in international development, international relations, or a related social science field from an accredited academic institution/university or an equivalent combination of training and experience.Experienceย
Field experience in the migration or development fields is a plus.ย Experience in project development and reporting and government and donor liaison is a plus.ย Experience of working in a multi-cultural setting.Skills
