    TYPE OF CONTRACT: Consultancy Level II

    DUTY STATION (City, Country): Abeche, Chad

    DURATION: 11 months

    BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

    Chad is one of the African countries hosting the higher number of refugees with about 1.2 million refugees,

    of which 606,000 fled Sudan to Chad since April 2023. With the Lake Chad crisis, 219,000 IDPs are living in difficult conditions and the security situation remains volatile. Chad is a Sahelian country submitted to

    recurrent droughts and flood. An important part of the population, particularly those leaving in Sahelian belt are food insecure during the lean season, with an average of 2 million severely food insecure per year (between 2020 to 2023) and rely on WFP food assistance. More than 1.3 million of children suffer of global acute malnutrition in Chad. Food and nutritional assistance to displaced populations (Refugees, Returnees, IDPs) and severely food insecure population is the biggest portfolio of the CO.

    Under the supervision of the Head of Area Office, the job holder will be based in Abeche, to design, coordinate, and manage programmes to effectively meet food assistance needs, or contribute to policy formulation and/or provide technical advice or oversight on programme strategy and implementation.
