JOB PURPOSE

To provide effective support and technical analyses for policy and programme activities related to nutrition.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

1. Provide technical support and assist in the development and implementation of various activities and processes related to nutrition technical assistance activities within the nutrition and School-based programmes(SBP) supporting alignment with wider programme policies and guidelines.
2. Provide specialized project management support to related programmes to ensure that the various activities are performed within the established targets following WFP’s policies and procedures.
3. Within nutrition and SBP, prepare a range of reports and data analysis and highlight trends and issues, ensuring deliverables adhere to organizational standards and quality control.
4. Ensure and/or perform accurate, timely recording of data and consistency of information presented to stakeholders within the nutrition and SBP.
5. Liaise with internal counterparts to support effective collaboration, implementation, and monitoring of ongoing project activities.
6. Coordinate and communicate with local partners, agencies, NGOs, related networks, and government institutions.
7. Support the capacity building of WFP staff, cooperating partners, and government staff within nutrition and SBP.
8. Assist and act as a point of contact as applicable for the resolution of a range of operational queries and problems within nutrition and SBP.
9. Review and work with the other support staff, providing practical advice and guidance, to contribute to delivering objectives to agreed standards and deadlines.
10. Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to ensure WFP is able to quickly respond and deploy needed resources to affected areas at the onset of the crisis.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Degree in nutrition, social sciences, agriculture, or a related field is preferable or a completion of secondary school education and a post-secondary certificate in the same areas.

Language: Proficiency in both oral and written communication skills in English. Written and oral communication skills in Sinhala and/or Tamil are preferred.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

• At least six years of relevant work experience in the fields of Nutrition, agriculture, health promotion, food science, social science, or equivalent
• Worked with technical teams (i.e. nutrition, RAM, etc.).
• Contributed to the implementation of programmes.
• Has observed or assisted with policy discussions.

  KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills and proven ability to be flexible in a team -oriented approach with diverse groups of people.
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills.
  • Proven ability to efficiently and effectively handle multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Computer literate.
