Mission and objectivesThe United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the United Nations' global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. It is on the ground in 177 countries, working on solutions to global and national development challenges. UNDP China assists China in developing its own solutions to the country’s development challenges and works to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by reducing poverty, strengthening the rule of law and democratic governance, and by promoting environmental sustainability and South-South Cooperation.
ContextThe Programme and Partnership Associate will directly work to support the UNDP China Deputy Resident Representative in the day-to-day management of the Country Office, including strategic planning and provide substantive research support in partnership and project development.
Task DescriptionUnder the direct supervision of the Deputy Resident Representative, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: I. Strategic Planning and Programme Oversight · Strategic Programme Oversight: Undertake targeted research on global development trends and programme implementation to support strategic management and oversight of UNDP’s country programme. · Strategic Operational Management: Undertake robust data analysis to support evidence-based decision making to support office-level strategic planning. II. Development Results Assessment and Policy Impact Assessment · Policy Research on Development Results and Impact: Undertake targeted research to assess development results and impact on the country programme’s work undertaken in 2021-2025. · Stakeholder Engagement: Support strategic engagement with national ministries, academic institutions, and development partners on UNDP China’s development results and impact. · Knowledge Management: Support and communicate UNDP China’s development results through publications, workshops, and cooperation platforms, including South-South and triangular exchanges. III. Partnerships with International Foundations & Think Tanks · Pipeline Project Development: Undertake targeted research to support the programme team in proposal development to enable strategic and strong partnerships to be established with development partners from domestic and international donors, including multilateral and philanthropic organizations, and think tanks.

Living conditions and remarksThe duty station of the UN Volunteer assignment is located in Beijing, the capital city of China, where public infrastructure, transportation, and health services are highly developed. The city offers a wide range of modern medical facilities, including international hospitals. Housing costs, particularly in central districts, are relatively high, though quality and availability are good in both apartments and serviced residences. Beijing is well served by extensive subway and bus networks, as well as metered taxis and ride-hailing apps. The city has numerous shopping malls, supermarkets, and international brands, and domestic as well as international travel options by high-speed rail and air are abundant and convenient.
