Work LocationHome based / Working remotely Expected duration12 Months The duration of the contract is 50% of the time (part-time), at a monthly rate of USD $3,500 Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Knowledge and Risk Unit of the Chemicals and Health Branch promotes scientific approaches and knowledge for the sound management of chemicals including through implementation of UNEA resolutions to allow policymakers to make informed decisions on the sound management of chemicals and waste. UNEP is leading the GEF-8 Integrated Programme (IP) on supply chains titled โ€œEliminating hazardous chemicals from supply chainsโ€. This is a full-size project (FSP) for which the Knowledge and Risk Unit is executing the Global Coordination Project, โ€œGlobal Replication to Eliminate Hazardous Chemicals from Supply Chains,โ€ (GEF ID 11177). The consultant will assist the Knowledge and Risk Unit with developing and implementing a strategy for stakeholder engagement to advance the integration of green and sustainable chemistry in high impact sectors (textiles, constructions, electronics, agriculture, pharmaceuticals) and for addressing the environmental dimensions of antimicrobial resistance. Duties โ€ข The objective of this consultancy is to assist the Knowledge and Risk Unit with developing and implementing a strategy for stakeholder engagement to advance the integration of green and sustainable chemistry in high impact sectors (textiles, constructions, electronics, agriculture, pharmaceuticals) and for addressing the environment dimensions of antimicrobial resistance. Responsibilities The tasks and responsibilities of the consultant will be as follows: 1) Green and Sustainable Chemistry (GSC) โ€ข Conduct research on most effective strategies /case studies for sectoral transformations, supporting the transition from chemical-by-chemical to sectoral approaches. โ€ข Prepare and deliver tailored outreach documents to communicate about GSC to a broad range of stakeholders (private sector, governments, academia). โ€ข Map existing private 2) Antimicrobial resistance (sector youth groups and propose the establishment of new ones for the industrial sectors of concern โ€ข Actively engage with stakeholder identified. โ€ข Prepare of compendium of indigenous and traditional non-chemicals alternatives to the sectors listed in the Global Framework of Chemicals, including ethical guidance on use/promotion of such alternatives. โ€ข Develop the Global Coordination Projectโ€™s IPLC Action Plan and contribute to the Gender Action Plans and Stakeholder Engagement Plans of the project. โ€ข Monitor Global Coordination Project activities related to IPLC and contribute to developing the grievance mechanism for the programme. โ€ข Review Global Coordination Project knowledge products under development to ensure they capture youth perspectives, indigenous knowledge-and are responsive to the needs of the two groups. โ€ข Develop a strategy to communicate on the environmental dimensions of AMR to various stakeholders. โ€ข Prepare and deliver standard outreach documents to leverage non-state actors (private sector, philanthropies) in UNEPโ€™s AMR work. โ€ข Actively engage with stakeholder identified. โ€ข Undertake desk study of potential partners liaising with resource mobilization colleagues. โ€ข Tailor standard message in order to reach out to identified partners with the aim of initiating collaboration. โ€ข Support the preparations of the Knowledge and Risk Unit's participation in relevant meetings and conferences on AMR matters. Qualifications/special skillsโ€ข Academic o Advanced university degree (Masterโ€™s degree or equivalent) in a field related to Economics/Environment. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. โ€ข Special skills/knowledge o Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to build robust relationships with key strategic partners. o Excellent communications skills (written and oral), fluent command of English and ability to craft and deliver messages in an articulate manner. โ€ข Professional Experience o Minimum of four years of professional experience in the fields of chemicals and waste management, environmental management, or related areas. o Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and multi-sectoral coordination, preferably in connection with environmental sustainability or chemicals management. o Proven track record in planning and facilitating sectoral consultations, dialogues, or capacity-building initiatives focused on chemicals and waste management. o Experience working with or engaging stakeholders from high-impact sectors such as textiles, construction, electronics, agriculture, or pharmaceuticals is highly desirable. o Familiarity with UN processes or intergovernmental organizations is desirable. o Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and multi-sectoral coordination, preferably in connection with environmental sustainability or chemicals management o Proven track record in planning and facilitating sectoral consultations, dialogues, or capacity-building initiatives focused on chemicals and waste management. o Experience working with or engaging stakeholders from high-impact sectors such as textiles, construction, electronics, agriculture, or pharmaceuticals is highly desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
