Org. Setting and ReportingThe temporary position is located within the United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH). Pursuant to Security Council resolution 2793 (2025), UNSOH has been mandated to provide support; primarily to the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), the Haitian National Police (HNP), and the Haitian Armed Forces in the context of any joint operations with the GSF. Additionally, UNSOH is tasked with delivering technical assistance to the Organization of American States (OAS). The incumbent reports to the Head Nurse in the Clinic, UNSOH. The temporary position is based in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and is located with the Medical Service Section, UNSOH. ResponsibilitiesWithin the delegated authority, the Nurse, GS-6 will be responsible for the following duties: Clinical Duties: Performs routine nursing duties and provides care/advice accordingly or facilitates referral to the Medical Officer or to an outside physician as indicated. Ensures preparedness of staff travelling on missions or re-assignments, including administration of appropriate vaccine, instructions on malaria prophylaxis and other travel-related ailments, instruction on the content and potential uses of the \"Travel Kit\". Supports health education and participates in addressing work environment and occupational health issues. Supports co-ordination between nurses, Medical Officers, UN Security, and outside Paramedics in case of medical emergencies. Performs clinical duties including emergency duties after working hours as and when required. Medical Administration Duties: Assists the Head Nurse in following United Nations established policies and procedures regarding medical clearances, medical emergencies, business continuity plans, crises management and medical preparedness, job related injuries/illnesses, and medico-legal issues. Implements, and evaluates nursing objectives and guidelines related to health care delivery. Participates in the establishment, implementation and evaluation of health promotion and occupational Programs. Supports evaluations and identifications on medical re-supplies. General Performs other related duties as required. CompetenciesProfessionalism: Knowledge of occupational nursing requirements, treatments and procedures. Ability to respond to emergencies and provide first care to patients and prepare for treatment. Knowledge of major medical office equipment and ability to use them in emergency situations. EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent is required. Job - Specific QualificationTraining in nursing such as Registered Nurse or equivalent is required. Work ExperienceAt least 7 years of progressive clinical experience in the medical field and hospital, is required Qualification and experiences in emergency care is required. Experience in health promotion and occupational health nursing in an international environment are desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
