NORCAP, with its expanding energy and environment portfolio, is at the forefront of supporting the sector and its partners in their transition towards cleaner energy and more sustainable strategies in both development and humanitarian assistance. The Energy and Environment team is proactively advancing in thematic areas that are necessary and applicable to the evolving landscape of humanitarian energy access in displacement settings.ย ย
As part of this strategy, we are recruiting Carbon Finance Experts who will contribute to the development and implementation of carbon finance mechanisms that unlock investment in clean energy technologies and approaches across humanitarian operations. This includes support to energy access initiatives in off-grid and fragile contexts through integration with carbon markets and results-based climate finance.ย ย
Missions' location, duration & travelsย ย

The Carbon Finance Experts will take on the following responsabilities :
- Identify and support the design of carbon credit-generating activities within NORCAP partner programmes, particularly in humanitarian or off-grid energy settings.ย
- Develop or advise on MRV frameworks and carbon methodologies aligned with voluntary or compliance standards.ย
- Contribute to structuring results-based finance mechanisms or carbon revenue models, including stakeholder negotiations and donor reporting.ย
- Provide technical guidance to host institutions on carbon rights, benefit-sharing, safeguard compliance, and Article 6 alignment.ย
- Support coordination with national governments, UN agencies, private developers, and civil society actors to ensure inclusive and sustainable project implementation.ย
Qualifications:ย
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in Environmental Economics, Energy Policy, Climate Finance, or a related field.ย
- Knowledge of carbon standards (Verra, Gold Standard, ART-TREES, etc.) and familiarity with MRV, ERPAs, or carbon trading platforms.ย

Experience Required:ย
- At least 5 years of relevant experience, with a focus on climate finance, carbon markets, or energy access in development or humanitarian settings.ย
- Proven experience working in fragile, conflict-affected, or humanitarian and displacement settings is an asset.ย
- Experience advising on carbon project development, benefit-sharing frameworks, or compliance with safeguards.ย

Skills Required:ย
- Strong technical knowledge of carbon crediting processes, emissions modelling, and results-based climate finance.ย
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.ย
- Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders, including host governments, local communities, donors, and private partners.ย
- Understanding of humanitarian principles and ethical implications of climate and carbon interventions in vulnerable communities.ย
