Danish Refugee Council, one of the worldโs leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Non-Technical Survey (NTS) Team Leader for our operations in Shire, with frequent travels to field locations
Overall purpose of the role
In June 2024 DRC launched a humanitarian mine action programme, initially composed of NTS and explosive ordnance risk education (EORE) in Northwest and Central Zone in Tigray, Ethiopia. DRC is therefore looking for a dedicated NTS Team Lead to support the launch and implementation of a new project beginning in January 2026.
The NTS/EORE Team Lead will work in close coordination with the NTS Operators, EORE team and the NTS/EORE Project Manager to plan and deliver Non-Technical Survey and Explosive Ordnance Risk Education activities in different community settings to identify and assess the impact of explosive ordnance on women, girls, boys and men in the target areas. They will support training facilitation in NTS to other team members, lead data collection and reporting in the area, and lead in developing the teamโs work plan and engaging local stakeholders to effectively plan, deliver and monitor NTS activities in the community. They will supervise and support the EORE facilitators from a partner organization when they are attached to the NTS team
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
Project Implementation
In coordination with the NTS/EORE Project Manager and through supervision of the NTS team, lead on the planning and delivery of NTS activities, ensuring compliance with National Mine Action Standards and DRCโs Standard Operating Procedures. Support induction and training of new NTS team members Collect and analyze existing desktop and secondary data prior to conducting NTS tasks With the NTS and EORE teams gather geographic, socio-economic and impact information on explosive ordnance-affected communities. Lead on implementing pre and post intervention surveys to measure the impact of DRCโs mine action activities on targeted communities. Act as the main focal point with community representatives for the planning and monitoring of NTS and EORE activities Establish and maintain a wide information network including authorities, communities, NGOs, and other possible sources of information Ensure the quality of NTS and EORE conducted in the community using DRCโs quality assurance tools Coordinate with area-level support services staff to facilitate the procurement of goods and services supporting NTS and EORE project delivery, in accordance with DRC guidelines and policies. Ensure field coordination with other EORE providers and flag uncoordinated efforts to the NTS/EORE Manager.Reporting
Keep accurate records of daily activities, the teamโs outputs and beneficiaries reached using standard reporting formats, and regularly update project monitoring databases according to DRC procedures Report issues faced during project implementation to the Project Manager Document success stories and lessons learned for development of donor reports and case studies Any other duties as directed by the Line ManagerExperience and technical competencies:
3 years working experience. Vocational school, higher education is an asset Previous training and experience in NTS, EOR Knowledge of International/National Mine Action Standards Experience in conducting surveys, data collection and analysis Sound knowledge of topography and map drawing, basic handling of compass, GPS and basic digital camera Computer literate Effective communication skills (written and verbal) in Tigrinya and English Excellent planning and organizational skills Excellent ability to work in a team Good knowledge of local communities and community dynamics Experience and willingness to work in the field in remote and volatile areas Driving license

BA Degree in related fieldLANGUAGE: (indicate Fluency level)
