Work LocationGeneva Expected duration01.09.25 to 28.11.25 Duties and ResponsibilitiesThese internship positions (2) are located in the Communications and External Relations (CER), Office of the Secretary-General at the United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD), in Geneva, Switzerland. The CER team is responsible for producing a wide array of communication materials to promote the work of UNCTAD, including news articles, videos, infographics, brochures, booklets, webpages, and social media content, as well as other outreach materials aimed at raising awareness about the organization's initiatives. The United Nations Internship Programme is unpaid and full-time. Interns are expected to work five days per week (40 hours). For those undertaking in-person internships, a valid visa and medical insurance coverage in Switzerland for the duration of the internship is required. All costs related to travel, accommodation, medical insurance, and living expenses must be borne by the intern. The position is based in Geneva and the intern will work under the supervision of a senior colleague. The intern will assist with various multimedia and communication-related tasks, contributing to UNCTAD's mission to disseminate accurate and impactful content to the public. These positions are in person, for an initial period of three months with the start date as soon as possible. The internโs primary responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: * Assisting with the creation, editing, and production of multimedia content (videos, podcasts, infographics, social media posts) for UNCTAD's platforms. * Supporting live coverage of events and conferences through photography, videography, and audio recording. * Assisting in editing and post-production of multimedia content using Adobe Creative Suite, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects, Canva. * Contributing to social media by creating engaging content and supporting digital campaigns. * Collaborating with colleagues to ensure accurate and timely multimedia outputs. * Assisting with archiving multimedia assets and maintaining a multimedia library. * Participating in team meetings and brainstorming sessions for content ideas. * Other related duties as required. More generally, interns shall: 1. Observe all applicable rules, regulations, instructions, procedures and directives of the Organization notwithstanding their status as described in section 5 of the UN Internship Programme Administrative Instructions ST/AI/2020/1. 2. Provide the receiving departments/offices with a copy of all materials prepared by them during the internship. The UN shall be entitled to all propery rights, including but not limited to patents, copyrights and trademarks, with regard to material which bears a direct relation to or is made in consequence of, the services provided under the internship. At the request of the UN, the interns shall assist in securing such property rights and transferring them to the UN in compliance with the requirements of the applicable law. 3. Respect the impartiality and independence required of the UN and of the receiving department/office and shall not seek or accept instructions regarding the services performed under the internship agreement from any Government or from any authority external to the UN; 4. Unless otherwise authorized by the appropriate official in the receiving department/office, they may not communicate at any time to the media or to any institution, person, Government or any other external source any information which has become known to them by reason of their association with the UN or the receiving department/office, that they know or ought to have known has not been made public. They may not use any such information without the written authorization of the appropriate official, and such information may never be used for personal gain. These obligations also apply after the end of the internship with the UN. 5. Refrain from any conduct that would adversely reflect on the UN or on the receiving department/office and will not engage in any activity which is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the UN. Qualifications/special skillsA University degree in the area of media, communications, graphic design and/or multimedia arts, journalism, marketing, public relations, international studies, photography or closely related field is required For this position the following skills are desirable: * Proficiency in multimedia tools and design software and standard video such as Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, etc.). * Strong interest in multimedia production, including video, audio, and social media content creation. * Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, in English. Knowledge of French or other UN languages is an asset. * Familiarity with social media platforms and trends (Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc.). Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Masterโs or PhD Programme, or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelorโs, Masterโs or PH.D.
