As a Mechanical Engineer, your main responsibilities will be:

Develop new technologies such as additive manufacturing by powder bed fusion and cold spray; characterize and validate them for UHV applications with extremely challenging requirements;Propose technical solutions with a cost-effective approach for the design of the 200 km vacuum system.Generate 3D virtual models of the copper vacuum chambers equipped with lumped synchrotron radiation absorbers and of their interconnections;Produce 2D detailed drawings of these vacuum components to enable prototyping;Lead the procurement, via external companies and internal workshops, of components and prototypes of vacuum chambers and interconnections;Participate in the assembly of mechanical and vacuum systems and contribute to the characterisation or validation tests of prototypes;Write technical documentation.

Who we are looking for

Skills and/or knowledge

Experience using CAD and FE software;Experience in thermal mechanical design;Knowledge in mechanical assembly;Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.You have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
