Setting and ReportingThe United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Secretariat Entities, Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the UN system worldwide. This position is located in the United Nations Global Service Centre, Brindisi, Italy within the Central Maintenance & Repair Unit/3R cell. The incumbent reports directly to the Chief, Supply Chain Service, UNGSC. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Logistics Officer will be responsible for the following duties: โข Lead CMRU in the 3R (Return, Refurbish, Reuse) project, from the the initial acceptance of equipment to the final inspection and acceptance of the equipment by the receiving Mission. โข Review and analyze technical inspection reports and the related costs of refurbishment. โข Draft Scopes of Work (SOWs) for out-sourcing services/spare parts for the refurbishment of equipment. โข Draft work plan based on the equipment, types of refurbishments required, and timelines; monitors and updates progress of each piece of equipment being refurbished and takes action to mitigate risks or delays. โข Provides effective and timely planning, oversight, management and coordination of logistics support operations. โข Integrates and monitors the implementation of logistics support plans at assigned field missions or service center. โข Develops policy and procedures documentation for DOS field logistics support. โข Liaises between field missions and Headquarters staff on logistics matters and coordinates day-to-day support of logistics operations. โข Plans and co-ordinates logistics support to new, sustaining, expanding, contracting and liquidating peacekeeping operations and other field missions and other peacekeeping operations. โข Manages logistics field operations. โข Ensures that logistics requirements take account of gender-specific needs. โข Develops plans and procedures for assessing material, staff, troops and their movements, planning and costing of operational budgets. โข Assumes responsibilities of certifying officer. โข Mentors new/junior officers. โข Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provides insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. โข Performs other related duties as required. EducationAdvanced university degree (Masterโs degree or equivalent) in logistics, business administration, public administration, engineering, or other relevant field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Job - Specific QualificationSuccessful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable. Work ExperienceA minimum of seven (07) years of progressively responsible experience in surface and/or air transport, logistics operations in military, commercial or international organizations, or related area is required. Experience working in support of a field operation (inclusive of peacekeeping operations, special political missions, agencies, funds and programmes), or other similar international organizations is desirable. Experience in asset management is desirable. Experience in reverse logistics is desirable. Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
