Org. Setting and ReportingThis position is located in the Mission Support Centre of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), duty station Abyei. The incumbent will report directly to the Chief, Mission Support Centre or their designate ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Logistics Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: LOGISTICS SUPPORT AND COORDINATION โ€ข Identifies all routine logistics transportation requirements within the mission, prepares, implements and controls appropriate methods to cater for them, ensuring optimal utilization of available resources. Provides logistical and operational support to mission clients in terms of lifeline commodities and services such as fuel and rations in coordination with the mission logistics supply section/unit. โ€ข Participates in generating an effective and efficient logistics planning and coordination with all Mission logistics related stakeholders and clients. โ€ข Reviews Missionโ€™s logistics implementation plan and operational directives to develop effective deployment plans and prioritization for goods and passenger movements to mission location. โ€ข Participates and ensures the development of logistics emergency, contingency plans and identifies ways to overcome obstacles when delivering goods. โ€ข Participates in generating an effective and efficient logistics planning and coordination with all Mission Logistics related stakeholders and clients. โ€ข Review and Missionโ€™s logistics implementation plan and operational directives to develop effective deployment plans and prioritization for goods and passenger movements to mission locations. โ€ข Participates and ensures the development of logistics emergency, contingency plans and identifies ways to overcome obstacles when delivering goods. Coordination of logistics support required by the mission Logistics Support Plan or other applicable directive. โ€ข Liaison with regional offices to ensure adequate and effective support arrangements are in place and maintained for each office as required by the Regional Office Support Plan. โ€ข Liaison with military contingent to ensure adequate and effective support in compliance with the applicable MOU for each contingent. โ€ข Conduct regular liaison visits to regional offices, contingent, UNMO sites and any other mission supported locations to verify adequacy of logistics support and obtain feedback from customers; โ€ข Review logistics support requests (including equipment requests) received from contingent, UNMOs, UNPOLs and regional offices ensuring that such requests are justified, legitimate and that quantities requested are within applicable guidelines/scales. โ€ข Progress requests to completion of delivery and maintain a record of backorders, ensuring that the client is kept informed of progress and/or problems. โ€ข Monitor the use of storage facilities at the Base to ensure effective utilization of space between the occupants and monitor the use of transit camp facilities. TRANSPORT/MOVEMENT MANAGEMENT โ€ข Coordinates the provision of ad-hoc transportation requirements including staff movement for duty purposes, and troop deployment/rotations. Coordinates and ensures assignments for the cooperative use of vehicles and equipment with contingents and other UN agencies. โ€ข Identifies all routine Logistics transportation requirements within the mission, prepares, implements and controls appropriate methods to cater for them, ensuring optimal utilization of available resources. Provides logistical and operational support to mission clients in terms of lifetime commodities and services such as fuel and rations in coordination with mission logistic supply section/unit. โ€ข Ensures all regions are fully supported with logistics support with coordination with all MSD sections. โ€ข Liaison with UNMO/UNPOL detachments to ensure adequate and effective support arrangements are in place for each site as required. โ€ข Liaison with UN agencies, NGOs and other organizations with which the mission has agreed logistics arrangements to ensure effective implementation of the relevant agreement. โ€ข Ensuring that any logistics support provided to contingents outside the terms of the relevant MOU is properly authorized and accounted for. โ€ข Coordinate, with MOVCON, the effective use of road transport to re-supply the regions/contingent and coordinate, with Air Ops and MOVCON, the effective use of air transport to re-supply the regions/contingent. โ€ข Coordinate with self-accounting units to ensure cost effective provision and distribution of goods are in place. Work ExperienceA minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in logistics operations, Logistic coordination, supply-chain management, asset management or related area is required. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of the other is desirable.
