Purpose of the role
The purpose of the Livelihoods Agronomist Officer position is to ensure day-to-day implementation of the project activities in Nineveh by contributing to specific technical livelihoods programme components.ย
What you will do
- Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines.
Specifically, you will;
Provide extension services to targeted producers in production technologies, collection and harvest, product handling, packing, processing, and access to the market through linkages to the value chains using market intelligence.Take the lead on planning agricultural extension services targeting farmers within key agri-food value chains and local partners including the extension services ecosystem.Participate in the selection process of beneficiaries including active involvement in the applications' evaluation committees and conducting the assessment field visits of possible beneficiaries.Organize the establishment and running of farmer field schools in coordination with relevant stakeholders to ensure the sustainability of the approaches.Establish and maintain strong working relationships with targeted communities, including local leaders, Project committees, and business dealers ensuring that they are informed and participate in project activities through the implementation of the NRC Community Engagement Approach.Plan and conduct in-kind and cash-based distributions as per the agreed SOP and guidelines.Support in the identification and procurement of training service providers, while putting in place systems to ensure quality.Support developing and implementing project activities, including surveys, capacity-building workshops, training sessions such as BMT, and networking events.Conduct market assessments and mapping to understand how local agriculture markets work and are linked to enable appropriate programming.Develop work plan for MSME development activities including business skillsย training, business grants distribution, monitoring etc.Participate in the review of business plans and selection of successful businessย plans with other committee members and Provide mentoring and coaching to all businesses supported with business grants.Any other tasks required by the line manager.ย Professional competencies
2ย yearsโ experience working on livelihood Projects in a humanitarian/recovery context preferably related to agriculture.Previous experience in implementing value chain projects (Agriculture, poultry, livestock)Experience in community-driven development projects (Farmer alliances, associations, cooperatives, committees etc.)A bachelor's degree preferably in agronomy, crop science, agricultural science, agricultural systems andย management, agribusiness, or other related fields.ย Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.Overall good knowledge of geography, local population, and local language in the areas of operational interests.Experience with capacity-building and training approaches and methods.Experience with community engagement approaches and principles.Experience with the development of civil society capacity.IT competencies including MS Office.Behavioral competencies
