Work LocationHomebased consultancy Expected duration7 Months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The United Nations Environment Management Group (UNEMG) was established in 1999 by the UN General Assembly as a UN system-wide coordination body on the environment. Its main goal is to integrate the environmental dimension of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development into the policies, plans and strategies of United Nations entities. The EMG Secretariat is seeking a junior consultant to support the implementation of the EMGโ€™s workplan for 2025-2026 including activities related to system wide environmental approaches, communication and EMG nexus dialogues. Specific tasks and responsibilities: โ€ข Provide input across the EMG workstreams as required. โ€ข Conduct thorough background research and compile and analyse data and information. โ€ข Prepare written documents for review of staff, including background documents, meeting summaries, concept notes and reports. โ€ข Develop presentations related to the EMGโ€™s work โ€ข Organize and plan meetings, events, and webinars. โ€ข Develop communication and awareness raising content for online publication. Qualifications/special skillsAn advanced university degree in the area of international relations, environmental studies, sustainable development or other related subject. However, a first-level university degree in a relevant field, combined with an additional two years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Minimum 6 months working experience with issues related to environment and sustainable development at the global or UN system is required. (2 years of experience is required in case of a Bachelorโ€™s degree) Experience in conducting independent research and analysis, including familiarity with and experience in the use of various information sources including qualitative reports is required. Familiarity with the work of UN agencies on environmental issues is desirable. LanguagesFor the advertised post, fluency in oral and written English is an absolute requirement.
