Your responsibilities

We are looking for an IT Network Technician to join the Deployment and Operations section of the Communication Systems group in the IT Department, providing hands-on support for infrastructure rollout and upgrade projects during the exciting long shutdown period of the CERN accelerator complex.

In this role, you will work closely with internal network engineers, technicians and external contractors to ensure the smooth execution of cabling installations and the deployment of active network equipment such as routers and switches across CERN's campus and experimental facilities.

As the successful candidate, your main responsibilities will be:

Support the preparation of technical documentation for subcontracted cabling activities or for network upgrade projects.Participate in on-site technical visits to evaluate the feasibility of installations.Assist with the planning and monitoring of cabling works or network upgrade projects, including progress tracking.Support the organization and coordination of logistics aspects prior to the start of the work-site.Update documentation and the central network database after completion of works.Assist with the deployment of new switches and routers, including pre- and post-installation surveys, and follow-up with the contractor responsible for the physical installation.Support the team in handling communications within tickets related to cabling activities and network upgrade projects, including interactions with end-users and external subcontractors.

Your profile

Skills:

Ability to interpret technical drawings and produce clear, accurate plans and documentation.Proficiency in standard office and documentation tools (Excel, Word, Visio).General understanding of network infrastructure components and their functions.Basic knowledge of structured cabling network infrastructure.Rigorous, well-organised, and autonomous.Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to interact with contractors and technical teams.Team-oriented with a proactive and flexible mindset.Basic knowledge of Linux CLI is a plus.Familiarity with ticketing system is a plus.Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language.

Eligibility criteria:

You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Technical diploma in the IT field (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma.You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.Applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree are not eligible.

Additional Information

Job closing date: 09.09.2025 at 23:59 CEST.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours: 40 hours per week

Target start date: 01-January-2026

This position involves:

Work in Radiation Areas.Interventions in underground installations.A valid driving licence.Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organisation.
