    Responsibilities

    Job Summary

    The Office of Internal Oversight assists the Director-General in the management of the OPCW's resources, through Internal Audits (including Confidentiality Audits) and Evaluations in order to add value to the efficiency and effectiveness of the operations of the OPCW. In addition, the OIO conducts investigations and provides assistance to the Secretariat for its Quality Management System.

    The purpose of this internship is to provide assistance and support the following Office of Internal Oversight activities such as:

  • Internal audits and evaluations;
OIO trainings and campaigns organised by OIO for the OPCW staff members;UN workgroups.

Tentative starting date: 9 September 2024.

Main Responsibilities

During this internship, the intern will:

Assist the planning and execution of internal audit assignments (i.e. data analysis and assisting in the preparation and review of audit reports);Assist in the planning of OIO trainings and campaigns for the OPCW staff;Support the participation in UN; workgroups focusing on cybersecurity, digitalization, and data governance.Provide assistance to maintain the OIO SharePoint up to date;Drafting announcements for review of the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

Essential:

Enrolled in and have completed at least one year of a degree programme in a university (or equivalent tertiary institution) or; in a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher) or;Have graduated from a university or a graduate school within a year prior to the commencement of the internship and;Be a citizen of an OPCW Member State and fluent in both written and spoken English.

Desirable:

Bachelor/Master degree in Law; Auditing, Accounting, Economics, Administration.

Knowledge and Experience

Candidates are not required to have professional working experience prior to joining OPCW.Experience in taking minutes, drafting documents and power points presentations would be an asset;
โ€ข Experience organising trainings and events would be an asset.

Skills and Competencies

Good knowledge of Outlook, MS Teams and SharePoint

Languages

Fluency in English is essential and a good working knowledge of one of the other official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is desirable.

Additional Information

This fixed-term appointment is for the duration of two years with a six-month probationary period, and is subject to the OPCW Staff Regulations and Interim Staff Rules.

The OPCW is a non-career organisation with limited staff tenure. The total length of service for Professional staff shall not exceed 7 years.

The mandatory age of separation at the OPCW is 65 years.

The Director-General retains the discretion to not make any appointment to this vacancy, to make an appointment at a lower grade, or to make an appointment with a modified job description. Several vacancies may be filled.

Fixed-term staff members participate in the OPCW Provident Fund. A monthly staff contribution is met with a doubled amount by the OPCW under the provisions for social security. As the OPCW is exploring membership of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF), staff participation in the Provident Fund may be replaced by participation in the UNJSPF effective 1 January 2025.
