Work LocationSwitzerland Expected duration3 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis internship will be working in the Editorial Unit, where the unit work on content created for the official UN Human Rights website, newsletters, events, social media, fundraising and global campaigns. The internship is UNPAID and full-time engagement that provides a framework through which students from diverse academic backgrounds gain exposure to the work of the United Nations by way of their service within Secretariat entities. Applicants should have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations with a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter and have the demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and views. Result of Service: This internship will work primarily with the Editorial Unit, with some work assigned by the Chief of Communications. Working under the supervision of the Head of the Editorial Unit, the internโ€™s work includes: 1. Assist in production of bi-monthly newsletter, including layout, information gathering, sending out and monitoring of metrics โ€“ with report; 2. Assist in the production of weekly emails of upcoming communication products, including social media metrics; 3. Conduct research, on the basis of official UN documentation and other sources, for the drafting of feature stories; 4. Assist in the preparation of public information campaigns, outreach activities, and collecting and gathering campaign feedback; 5. Assist in the development and branding of public information products, such as fact sheets, background notes, brochures, etc.; 6. Assist in the research and drafting texts for the OHCHR website, i.e. thematic introductory pages; 7. Assist in liaising with OHCHR field presences and the UN Department of Public Information on communications matters; 8. Assist in the organization and effective dissemination of materials being distributed to partners, as well as in the assembling of public information materials for particular events; 9. Assist in the coordination of OHCHR briefings to visiting groups; 10. Assist in monitoring and evaluation work of campaigns and other communication products under direction; 11. Attend meetings relevant to his/her functions. Purpose: The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (UN Human Rights) is the leading UN entity on human rights. This announcement broadcasts international internship assignments with the Communications and Mobilization Section (CMS) of the External Engagement and Partnerships Service (EPS). Established in 2013, EPS works to create synergies between the different external relations services with the aim of maximizing the impact of their work. Comprised of five thematic areas/Unit - Audio-visual, Graphic Design, Social Media, Editorial, and Web, the Communications and Public Mobilization Section develops and implements strategies to improve general awareness of human rights issues and generates support for OHCHR's work in human rights. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Masterโ€™s or P.H.D programme or equivalent or have completed a Bachelorโ€™s, Masterโ€™s or P.H.D programme. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is an asset. Knowledge of another United Nations official language would be an advantage (i.e. Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish). Additional InformationNot available.
