The internship can be done on full time or part time basis Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations (UN) Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is the part of the UN Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA also ensures there is a framework within which each actor can contribute to the overall response efforts. OCHAโs mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate the rights of people in need; promote preparedness and prevention and facilitate sustainable solutions. โข The Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse and Sexual Harassment (PSEAH) Unit supports the vision of a humanitarian environment in which people caught up in crises feel safe and respected and can access the protection and assistance they need without fear of exploitation or abuse by any aid worker, and in which aid workers themselves feel supported, respected, and empowered to deliver such assistance in working environments free from sexual harassment. To help ensure robust, efficient, and accessible systems are in place to prevent and respond to sexual exploitation, abuse or sexual harassment allegations, the PSEAH Unit works towards the implementation of the IASC PSEAH Vision and Strategy 2022-2026 together with inter-agency partners. Furthermore, the PSEAH Unit supports OCHA leadership in mainstreaming PSEA in the operationalisation of transformational priorities as articulated in OCHAโs strategic plan 2022-26. As part of IASC and OCHAโs commitment to strengthening support to humanitarian leadership on PSEA, the unit manages the Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse Capacity Project (PSEACap). The PSEACap project centrally employs and deploys PSEA Coordinators in high-risk contexts. The PSEAH Unit provides substantive policy guidance and technical support to these coordinators and country teams, enabling them to assist humanitarian leadership at the country level. The intern will support the PSEAH team on project management, report writing. She/he will report to the Senior Coordinator on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse and Sexual Harassment. Tasks will include: โข Co-manage the PSEA helpdesk and respond to request for support from field offices โข Support in managing the PSEA Coordinator Community of Practice โข Update web-based platforms for information sharing, including internal SharePoint and public facing websites โข Provide inputs for various reports/updates โข Draft meeting notes and action points โข Support the implementation and monitoring of the IASC Vision and Strategy on PSEAH. โข Prepare talking points for OCHA leadership's meetings with various stakeholders. โข One intern position is Geneva based and one intern position is New York based. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelorโs degree or equivalent). Previous experience in the non-profit sector is desirable Previous experience working on PSEA, gender, GBV, protection, AAP or human rights is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
