Work LocationBrussels, Belgium Expected duration15/05-15/11 (6 months) Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe intern shall support OHCHR in fulfilling its mission: to work for the protection of all human rights for all people; to help empower people to realize their rights; and to assist those responsible for upholding such rights in ensuring that they are implemented. Daily responsibilities of Human Rights Regional Office for Europe intern will depend on the individual's background and duties may include but are not limited to monitoring developments in the Europe region and within the European Union's institutions, both in areas relevant to European Union member-states and with regards to European Union external action (i.e. human rights issues, political developments, legislative initiatives with relevance to human rights). In particular, the intern may: โ€ข Draft thematic and background materials and assist in preparing thematic studies and analyses on Business and Human Rights, as well as Human Rights Economy. โ€ข Assist in drafting materials and organizing workshops, seminars, and outreach activities, particularly on Business and Human Rights and Human Rights Economy. โ€ข Support the development of communication materials, including human rights campaign materials, blog posts, fact sheets, and promotional content. โ€ข Contribute to maintaining and updating the Regional Officeโ€™s website and social media channels by drafting and uploading human-interest stories, press releases, and relevant publications. โ€ข Assist in overseeing the maintenance and enhancement of the Regional Office's information and resource tools (e.g., information flyers, key partner mailing lists). โ€ข Contribute to internal and external reporting on the Officeโ€™s work, including communication updates on key initiatives and achievements. โ€ข Support media and outreach activities by engaging with key stakeholders and disseminating visibility materials. โ€ข Attend meetings and conferences as requested, taking notes when relevant. โ€ข Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for the United Nations Secretariat internship programme, applicants must, at the time of their submission, be enrolled in a graduate school programme (i.e., Master's degree or equivalent degree, or higher) or in the final academic year of a first-level university degree programme (i.e., Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree), preferably in the area of law, political science, international relations, social sciences, or a related field, with a focus on human rights, business and human rights, and/or communication skills. Alternatively, applicants may have graduated with a university degree as defined above and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period from the date of graduation. LanguagesLanguages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English is required, knowledge of French is an asset.
