UNICRI is mandated to assist intergovernmental, governmental and non-governmental organizations in formulating and implementing improved policies in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. UNICRI' s goals are: * to advance understanding of crime-related problems; * to foster just and efficient criminal justice systems; * to support the respect of international instruments and other standards; * to facilitate international law enforcement cooperation and judicial assistance. This position is located in the CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) Risk Mitigation and Security Governance Programme and, particularly, within the EUโ€™s CBRN Centres of Excellence Initiative, which is aimed at strengthening regional security and safety by sharing good practices and capabilities, by developing guidelines, by identifying and deploying resources to respond to the needs identified by partner countries and by supporting the development of national CBRN policies. Under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer, the intern will be involved in drafting and developing different project-related documents aimed at enhancing and sustaining the CBRN Investigation, Prosecution and Adjudication (IPA) capabilities of partner countries through developing training curricula, conducting capacity building and training activities, producing e-learning and other educational products. More specifically, the duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: โ€ข Assist in the preparation and organization of both in-person and virtual meetings, workshops, and conferences. This includes tasks such as preparing invitations, coordinating with participants, managing schedules, and ensuring logistical arrangements are in place. โ€ข Contribute to drafting and editing a range of written materials relevant to the projects. These may include background documents that provide context for project activities, summary reports that capture outcomes, issue briefs that outline key challenges and recommendations, and talking points to support staff in official communications. โ€ข Prepare concept notes and project proposals. This includes helping to articulate the projectโ€™s objectives, target outcomes, timelines, and resource needs in clear and concise language suitable for internal review or external funding consideration. โ€ข Upon request, the intern will attend online meetings and teleconferences to support project coordination. Following these sessions, he/she will be responsible for taking detailed notes, summarizing key discussions, and initiating any required follow-up actions to ensure tasks are tracked and completed. โ€ข Support the creation of written outputs such as speeches or content for internal use. This includes researching background information, drafting initial versions, and revising drafts based on feedback from supervisors or subject matter experts. โ€ข Support in designing and preparing PowerPoint presentations, ensuring they are visually engaging, factually accurate, and accompanied by speaker notes where appropriate. โ€ข In collaboration with the project team, the intern may draft short articles or visibility materials aimed at highlighting project milestones, achievements, or key findings for publication on the organizationโ€™s website or social media platforms. โ€ข Provide general support for events and project-related activities, which may include preparing participant materials, coordinating travel or technical requirements, and ensuring smooth execution of event logistics. โ€ข The intern may be assigned other tasks or responsibilities, depending on the evolving needs of the team and the projects underway. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet at the time of the application one of the following requirements (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent). Preferable fields of study: law, political science, international relations, criminology, business administration, communication/external relations or other related fields. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams (required). Ability to draft articles, analytical reports and social media posts is desirable. Ability to collect and analyse primary data is desirable. Ability to engage and maintain communication with relevant stakeholders is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
